The developers behind Star Wars: The Old Republic are celebrating its 10th anniversary by looking back at the past and offering an exciting look into the future. First launching in 2011, Star Wars: The Old Republic players can choose from a variety of different character classes and explore the ancient era first established in Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic. Since then, EA and BioWare’s hit MMO has seen a large assortment of updates and additional DLC content and has even continued past Disney’s purchase of the Star Wars franchise and the resulting reboot of the Expanded Universe that Star Wars: The Old Republic was built from.

The game’s most recent confirmed expansion is Legacy Of The Sith, which is set for release on February 15 and will feature a new storyline detailing Darth Malgus’s latest scheme on the planet Manaan to Star Wars: The Old Republic’s. To combat this new threat, players can now utilize the new combat styles that BioWare added to Star Wars: The Old Republic in a Public Server beta test back in October. As it turns out, BioWare has much more on the horizon for Star Wars: The Old Republic as fans look back on the game’s past ten years.

Earlier today, Star Wars: The Old Republic Project Director Keith Kanneg posted a heartfelt letter to commemorate The Old Republic’s 10th anniversary and give players a closer look at some of the new content coming in 2022. In this blog post, Kanneg reflected on how a fair portion of his development team has been involved with Star Wars: The Old Republic since the very beginning, and have come to form a tight bond as they worked to deliver nearly 300 update patches and almost eight massive story expansions. He also notes that adapting to the recent COVID-19 pandemic was a challenge for the developers at BioWare, as connecting with players at in-person events like Star Wars Celebration was a major part in helping ensure that Star Wars: The Old Republic was the best it could be.

Kanneg also detailed some of the Star Wars: The Old Republic promotional events either currently underway or planned for the coming months, such as a special anniversary gun charm that is available to download in Apex Legends from now until February 15 and an in-game Life Day event that is currently running until January 11. He also shed some additional details on the upcoming Legacy Of The Sith expansion, including a dramatic event on the planet Elom, an erupting civil war between Mandalorian clans, and multiple new locations. Additionally, BioWare is adding new progression gear starting with the upcoming R-4 Anomaly Operation, and The Old Republic’s Character Creation options and User Interface elements are going to be updated.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has come a long way from its humble beginnings as an MMO tie-in for Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, and has continued to be a popular social experience for Star Wars fans for nearly a decade. With upcoming expansions continuing to build Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, BioWare isn’t ending this journey into the Old Republic anytime soon. Players have a wealth of exciting new content to look forward to in 2022 and beyond.
