There are few cinematic trilogies as wildly divisive and fandom-splitting as the Star Wars sequel trilogy, released by Disney in the new era of the canon, with it arguably being even more divisive than the prequel trilogy. However, despite the issues many have with the films, they have introduced a lot of brilliance to the lore, from new characters to new places, and entirely new factions continuing the series’ titular galactic conflicts.

While they may not have the staying power of those from the original trilogy or the meme-iconography of those from the prequels, the sequels have many incredible quotes that will likely age excellently as the new generation of fandom grows up and continues to fall in love with the franchise, more than can even be done justice here.

10 “That’s Not How The Force Works!” – Han Solo

One thing the prequel trilogy will always have over the other Star Wars movies is the collection of meme-worthy content, specifically through quotes from various characters. These are some of the most iconic lines from the films.

However, the other trilogies are not without them, and this quote from Han in The Force Awakens is the perfect example. It is a great laugh-out-loud moment and undoubtedly one of the lightest and most enjoyable lines of the trilogy from a charismatic fan favorite in an exchange with a similar character in Finn.

9 “The Belonging You Seek Is Not Behind You, It Is Ahead.” – Maz Kanata

One of the major consequences of the lack of planning evident in the trilogy is potentially phenomenal characters falling to the wayside with inconsistent arcs and underutilization. Maz Kanata is a perfect example of this.

She is a fascinating character who was, unfortunately, brushed aside in the final two-thirds of the trilogy. However, she did impart a lot of wisdom in The Force Awakens. This quote exemplifies the idea of letting go of the past and moving on to the future, to greener pastures. The exchange between Rey and Maz is great to watch, and this quote is a definite highlight.

8 “I Know What I Have To Do, But I Don’t Know If I Have The Strength To Do It.” – Kylo Ren

The most consistently high-quality character throughout the trilogy in terms of writing and performance was Kylo Ren, challenged perhaps only by Rey—and arguably Luke depending on your The Last Jedi opinions.

This quote comes up twice in the trilogy’s bookends, both of which in conversations with his father, reflecting the change and growth of the character during his admittedly divisive redemption arc, going from murdering his father to coming back to the light with the help from him.

7 “I Am All The Jedi!” – Rey

As a female lead in Star Wars, Rey has received an unfair amount of hate directed towards her over the past five-plus years, with a lot of detractors pegging her as a flawless “Mary Sue” character. Still, overall, while not perfectly executed, she is a great character who will inspire new generations with her story.

She has a few great quotes, and some that will be less fondly remembered, but perhaps her best and the most chilling is in the final battle of the trilogy between her and Palpatine, proclaiming herself to have and be all the Jedi to counter all the Sith with Palpatine. Despite the slew of problems with the film, Rey was fantastic here.

6 “Dad.” “I Know.” – Kylo Ren/Ben Solo & Han Solo

Going back to Kylo Ren and his relationship with his father, Han, perhaps the best scene in The Rise Of Skywalker was the surprise one where the memory of Han appears to Kylo, and the two have a conversation which mirrors that in The Force Awakens.

The moment when Kylo lets go of his hate, becomes Ben Solo again, and calls Han dad for the first time for audiences was special, with the ever fantastic Harrison Ford’s “I know” only adding to the brilliance and even tear-inducing nature of the entire exchange.

5 “Amazing. Every Word Of What You Just Said Was Wrong.” – Luke Skywalker

One of the most divisive aspects of the sequel trilogy was its portrayal of Luke Skywalker, particularly in The Last Jedi. To its fans, Luke’s arc is a masterpiece; to its detractors, it goes against everything the character was built up to be. Nevertheless, Mark Hamill delivers immense performance and produces some standout quotes.

This quote is not for everyone, but it has been fondly remembered by those who love The Last Jedi. It is a multi-faceted quote which can be interpreted in many ways in terms of some sort of deeper meaning, but, on the surface alone, the exchange between Luke and Kylo on Crait is fantastic, and the rest of this quote talking about the rebellion and Luke not being the last Jedi is one of the movies best moments.

One of the many bold ideas Rian Johnson built on in The Last Jedi was letting go of the past by not clinging to what has been and relying on it, but rather looking to the future and creating something new in the past’s wake. It was a phenomenal message that did get lost at times in the film’s aftermath.

This quote from Kylo is not only the pinnacle of vocalizing this idea, but it is also brilliantly delivered by Adam Driver, who is incredible throughout the film. The message can be brutal, but it is also passionate and can be interpreted in various ways and applied to many real-life situations.

3 “Chewie, We’re Home.” – Han Solo

The build-up to The Force Awakens was a special time for the Star Wars fandom and is the most united the fandom has been since Disney’s takeover. The trailers for the film were immense, and this quote was a definite highlight.

With a smile on Han’s face and Chewbacca looking as scruffy as ever, this moment is one that you cannot help but smile at. Seeing the two on-screen again after over thirty years and helping usher in the new era was phenomenal. This line is perhaps the most iconic of the trilogy.

2 “No One’s Ever Really Gone.”

Going back to the always excellent Luke Skywalker, he has so many memorable quotes, including “some things are stronger than blood” and “confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi.” However, given all the surrounding circumstances, this one may be the best.

Talking to Leia in what is a heartbreaking scene, this line from The Last Jedi is even more poignant due to the loss of the legendary Carrie Fisher. While the quote refers to Kylo and can be seen as nobody is too far gone to be redeemed, the quote can also refer to people remaining with us when they have passed on, like Leia and Carrie Fisher, and then Luke, live in fan’s hearts as well as their in-universe families hearts.

Another highlight of the trilogy was Yoda’s return to the franchise in The Last Jedi, appearing as the most powerful version of a Force spirit fans have been treated to. In his exchange with Luke, he delivers a slew of wise quotes, with this one being a great message.

Talking about failure in such a light helps Luke come back to help the Resistance and realize hope still exists. On top of that, it is so inspiring for people in real life who, in hard times, can learn from mistakes and be better, do better, with it never being impossible to come back.
