Star Wars fans argue which Jedi are more powerful all the time (usually using Yoda as a benchmark). It’s rare any two are exactly alike in power or even appearance. Huge differences exist between Jedi Master Shaak Ti and former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, but the two have one thing in common: they’re both Togruta.

This unique alien species is one of the most visually distinctive of the prequel era and gave fans two of the most interesting members of the Jedi Order to ever grace the screen. However, which of the two is the better Jedi?

10 Shaak Ti: The Original

Shaak Ti wins the argument of who might be the better of the two by virtue of getting there first. Shaak Ti first appeared in Attack of the Clones and played a fairly prominent role in the massive Battle of Geonosis. Shaak Ti was one of the few Jedi to survive the onslaught inside the arena, and then joined the larger battle between the Grand Army of the Republic and the Separatists. Shaak Ti was designed by concept artists Dermot Power and Iain McCaig.

9 Ahsoka Tano: The Icon

Shaak Ti may have been first, but Ahsoka Tano is the Togruta that pretty much everybody knows. Ahsoka Tano is an icon, thanks to her unique journey as the apprentice of Anakin Skywalker. Ahsoka has grown from a young Padawan in the Clone Wars animated series to a former Jedi walking her own path in the Outer Rim in The Mandalorian. Now, she will have her own live-action series that will hopefully answer a lot of unanswered questions about Ahsoka Tano.

8 Shaak Ti: Comes Close To The Sith

Ahsoka Tano is at the center of the tragic destiny of Anakin Skywalker, whose fall to the Dark Side brings down the Jedi and the Republic. But she never gets very close to the conspiracy at the heart of it. Shaak Ti does. In her appearances in the Clone Wars animated series, particularly the best episodes of the sixth season, she investigates the mystery of the ailing clone trooper Fives. Shaak Ti comes painfully close to unraveling the mystery of the inhibitor chips and the ultimate plan of Sith Lord Darth Sidious.

7 Ahsoka Tano: Left The Jedi

Shaak Ti shares some of the myopia of the Jedi of her period. Even Master Yoda made mistakes in not being able to deduce the elaborate conspiracy of the Sith. Ahsoka was the victim of one of those mistakes when she was put on trial by the Jedi for a crime she clearly didn’t commit.

Ahsoka’s experience showed her that the Jedi were blind and bound to their own bureaucracy, and she walked away from the order. She remained a faithful follower of Jedi principles and practiced them well into the New Republic era.

6 Shaak Ti: Excellent Teacher

So far as fans know at the moment, Ahsoka Tano has never had an apprentice. Shaak Ti was an excellent teacher in her day. She didn’t have an apprentice either, at least that has been disclosed, but she was an important teacher for the clones. Shaak Ti was stationed on Kamino during the Clone Wars and was critical in the development of the soldiers as they trained. Her tough but caring demeanor made an impression on her students, especially Fives, who thought of her as a very caring person.

5 Ahsoka Tano: Outstanding Student

One thing fans of The Mandalorian who saw Ahsoka Tano for the first time may not know is that she was an outstanding student. Ahsoka was more than just a skilled apprentice when it came to using her lightsaber or learning the Force. She took bitter lessons from the fall of her master, Anakin Skywalker. Those lessons informed her decision not to train Grogyu, fearing that his attachment to Din Djarin would interfere with his training as a Jedi. Luke Skywalker, on the other hand, elected to train him.

4 Shaak Ti: Many Deaths

Shaak Ti is unusual in Star Wars lore for the fact that she has died several times. Due to the evolving nature of the Revenge of the Sith screenplay and production, scenes were filmed where she died both at the hands of the droid General Grievous and also Anakin Skywalker. This second death was referenced in a vision Yoda had in the Clone Wars series, and is accepted to be her canonical fate. Anakin stabs Shaak Ti from behind as she meditates in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

3 Ahsoka Tano: Many Lives

Ahsoka Tano, on the other hand, is unique in that she has lived a few more lives than most ever thought she would. Most fans assumed that Ahsoka would die in Order 66, given the fact she was never mentioned in the prequel trilogy. But her journey went in a different direction than anyone ever could have expected.
