While Super Auto Pets is a relatively new game released in June 2021, the game has piqued the interest of a number of prominent figures in the gaming industry. Unsurprisingly, this has resulted in a huge increase in the game’s overall player base.

Of course, this sudden increase in Super Auto Pets players comes with a matching increase in competition. Therefore, Super Auto Pets players looking to gain an edge over their competitors need to develop a clear strategy while building their teams.

8 Horse & Cricket

Admittedly, the beginning of a Super Auto Pets game is often the most random. However, players often choose between overpowering their opponents with one big pet, many small pets, or random chance. Players who prefer to lean into summoning builds may appreciate using a combination of horses, crickets, and honey in earlier rounds of the game. While a single horse or cricket may seem inadequate in the face of a bigger Tier 1 unit such as a fish or a pig, a cricket will produce another cricket upon fainting, and the horse will then buff that 1 attack/1 health unit to be a 2/1 unit if the team is arranged properly. If a player adds honey onto their cricket(s), the horse will buff the resulting bee(s) as well.

7 Ducks

One early game strategy that’s become fairly popular is often referred to as “the duck strat.” The duck is a Tier 1 pet that grants a stat buff to any pets available in a player’s Pet Shop at the time that the duck is sold. While the buff to shop pets is neither as large nor as overarching as the grant provided by the Tier 4 Canned Food item found in the Food Shop, keeping a few ducks on hand in the early game helps to prepare players for more promising units down the line. Even a slightly buffed fish is more promising than an unbuffed fish, and this can set players up to hold onto their fish until they are able to use that fish to buff later units. Ducks are very promising early units for patient Super Auto Pets players.

6 Ant & Fish

Both ants and fish are great early investment pets for players looking to the future. A combination of ant(s) and fish can be very competitive in the early game. The fish alone can be a strong early pet due to its 2/3 starting stats. Compared to many other Tier 1 pets, the fish can withstand damage while picking off enemy units. Upon fainting, Level 1 ants grant a +2/+1 buff to a random pet on the player’s team. If a fish is the last unit on a player’s team with at least one ant directly in front of it, the fish is almost guaranteed to become a 4/4 unit prior to attacking. Additionally, the fish will grant all units on a player’s team +1/+1 upon leveling up which can help develop later additions. Using a sleeping pill on the ant when it is time to part ways will assign the +2/+1 fainting buff to a random pet on the player’s team permanently.

5 Hedgehog and/or Badger

Some of the more volatile strategies certain players lean on slightly later in a Super Auto Pets game are the Honey-Hedgehog build, the Honey-Badger build, or even a combination of the two. Hedgehogs and badgers are two pets that deal damage to friendly units as well as enemies. Seeing as hedgehogs deal 2 damage to ALL units upon fainting, it is crucial for players to evaluate the stats of all of their pets prior to placing their hedgehog.

Badgers, on the other hand, deal damage exclusively to the pets on either side of them upon fainting. If a badge faints at the front of the team, for example, the badger’s attack damage will be dealt to the enemy pet across from it and the friendly pet directly behind it. Many players use honey as a bit of insurance with these pets. Even if every other pet faints from the friendly damage, the player will be left with a 1/1 bee after losing a pet with honey equipped.

4 Sheep & Kangaroo

Two popular mid-game units are the sheep and the kangaroo. This may seem strange to newer players, as both the sheep and the kangaroo seem unimpressive to begin with. Their base stats are 2/2 and 2/3 respectively, after all. However, the kangaroo continuously gains a +2/+2 (temporary) buff every time the pet ahead of it attacks, and a Level 1 sheep produces two 2/2 rams upon fainting. If a player creates a sheep with a high enough health stat to attack numerous times, the kangaroo will be very strong by the time the sheep faints in the first place. At this point, there will be another pet directly in front of the kangaroo, which allows for even more time to buff the kangaroo’s stats.

3 Whale & Deer

Another combination of pets that can be incredibly frustrating for opposing teams uses the whale’s ability to consume the pet in front of it at the start of the battle and return that pet as a 1/1 pet after fainting. While the deer is not the most effective unit on its own, the deer produces a 5/5, 10/10, or 15/15 bus with splash attack upon fainting, depending on the deer’s level.

Especially as the game progresses, one deer is rarely sufficient to keep the enemy team on their toes. However, placing a whale directly behind the deer will result in the eventual production of two buses with splash attack during the round. Integrating virtually any key summoning pet (i.e. shark) into this build can even further maximize a player’s potential.

2 Sheep & Whale & Shark

Again, the sheep is a very compelling Tier 3 unit and can be used in a handful of different builds. Unsurprisingly, this unit lends itself nicely to most summoning builds. One strong combination of Super Auto Pets is a sheep equipped with honey followed by a whale and, eventually, a shark. Sharks receive a +2/+1, +4/+2, or +6/+3 buff for every friendly pet that faints, depending on the shark’s level. Therefore, sharks are most effective as the last pet in a team lineup. Placing a whale in front of a shark and behind a sheep results in up to 7 pets fainting before the shark ever faces the enemy team. Players who effectively equip pets on their team with honey can increase this number even further.

1 Camel & Peacock & Kangaroo

One of the most symbiotic combinations of free pets in Super Auto Pets is the combination of a camel followed by a peacock followed by a kangaroo. To get the most usage out of these pets’ abilities, it is crucial to maximize the camel’s health. Every time that the camel is injured, the peacock behind it will gain +1/+2, +2/+4, or +3/+6 depending on the camel’s level. Then, the peacock will gain a +2, +4, or +6 attack buff (again depending on level) every time that it takes damage. This alone can produce an impressive unit. However, following this peacock with the kangaroo, which gains +2/+2, +4/+4, or +6/+6 (depending on level) every time the peacock attacks produces yet another formidable unit.
