Supergirl: 10 Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

Supergirl has had many supporting characters come and go, but some characters deserved more screen time over others.

Supergirl is set to be rebooted a little after the Crisis crossover event. With a new Earth, there are also new opportunities to put the focus on some supporting characters that have been overlooked previously, due to much larger storylines.

For others, it’s too late for them to get any more focus, but we wish that they had been featured a little more heavily before being removed from the show. Here are ten supporting characters from the show that definitely deserved more screen time.

10 WINN SCHOTT

Winn may be returning to the show soon, which is a relief since we’ve missed him being a heavily featured part of Supergirl. We have to say that he had the correct amount of screen time when he was on the show, but now he has been removed completely.

The absence is absolutely felt, and we can’t wait to have him return. We want him to embrace his guy in the chair status once again, and he may have even picked up a few tricks from his time spent in the far future of Earth.

9 NIA NAL

Aside from just bringing a really cool costume and a unique set of powers, Nia Nal actually contributes a lot to the show. Her gifts are a great storytelling device, and her personal journey has been inspirational to watch. Yet now she gets barely any screen time.

Besides a subplot about her romance with Brainy, we really don’t get to see much more from this groundbreaking hero. We would like to see her brought into the fold more and given another genuinely meaningful story that showcases her talents.

8 M’GANN M’ORZZ

Miss Martian was a really exciting addition to the show. Not only did she deepen the level of characters from the show with a storyline inspired by the comics, but she also had a larger personal connection to J’onn himself.

It’s a shame that she was barely ever featured when she did have a part to play on the show. The two are a legendary duo and learned a lot from one another. We would have enjoyed seeing her come to grips with becoming a full-time member of Earth once again.

7 MORGAN EDGE

Morgan Edge is one of the more manipulative villains of the show and actually presented a different kind of challenge for Kara and Lena. He was not the kind of guy that could be punched into prison (although ironically, he was eventually).

He could have become so much more, a political rival and one with the money, resources, and public press that couldn’t be touched. Sadly the focus of this villain was more on Lena, and he was dispatched of pretty quickly. So much more could have been done with him.

6 CAT GRANT

Cat Grant was a fearless leader and a really good boss. She inspired Kara to be better at her job and indeed take a more fierce approach to being Supergirl. Her journey has ended with her in the White House, with the sky being the limit here on out.

It’s a shame that she had to leave the show because we really need a bit more screen time from Cat Grant. There was something really complex about the character that we haven’t seen from anyone else. It was especially interesting since she knew Supergirl’s identity.

5 M’YRRN J’ONZZ

Speaking of the Martian’s, another Mars resident made a big impact on the show; the father of the Martian Manhunter himself made an appearance. He became a series regular, but his battle with his memory quickly became the main focus.

Unfortunately, the character was killed off, ending that journey. We wish he had been introduced into the show much earlier and that we’d had his nuggets of wisdom throughout previous seasons. Sadly, we won’t be seeing anymore, unless it’s through a conversion in the mind.

4 IMRA ARDEEN

Supergirl 10 Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

The Legion of Superheroes is a really fun group of supers from the future. While Brainiac 5 has stayed in the past, fulfilling his duties to Earth, the other members of the team, including Kara’s ex Mon-El, have returned to the future.

Due to the drama with Mon-El, we believe that Imra, or Saturn Girl, was not given enough screen time. She could have been one of the best characters on the show, but instead was thrown into a love triangle and not given much time to do anything else.

3 JEREMIAH DANVERS

Alex’s biological father and Kara’s adopted Dad has made his way in and out of the show for some time. The search for Jeremiah fuelled the series for some time before he was found, considered a traitor, and then redeemed towards the end of his arc.

He is still missing, with his location possibly known by a few people. Jeremiah clearly loves his family though and we’d like to see him finally reunited with them. He hasn’t had nearly enough screen time, but maybe a fresh start can change all that.

2 SAMANTHA ARIAS

Supergirl 10 Supporting Characters Who Deserved More Screen Time

Samantha had a huge character arc, living a double life as the villain Reign, while also heading up a major company. Her story was complete at the end of the season, and she was cast away as if there was nothing more for her to do long term.

We think there was plenty Samantha could have been doing, including living a life as a superhero or at least sticking around as part of Kara’s friendship group. It’s criminal she was written out so quickly and hasn’t even been seen since.

1 ALURA ZOR-EL

Alura is the mother of Kara. After supposedly being dead for so long, it was a heartwarming moment to see her return to Kara’s life. Then she stayed away on the remnants of Krypton, never to be seen again, except by Superman himself.

It seems so strange that this influential Kryptonian would be written out of the series or at least not given a bit more to do when she was on screen. We want a little more justice for this character, especially since she holds so much of Krypton’s history.
