Supergirl may be the newest television superhero on the block, but she had better brace herself because it seems like season 1 of the CBS series will be bringing several DC Comics villains her way. Like Arrow and The Flash before it, the show (which was also co-created by Arrow/Flash co-creator Greg Berlanti) is digging deep into the comics’ history to set the spotlight on evildoers that have been rarely, if ever, brought to life in live-action before.

The series – which stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin – has already announced that Peter Facinelli’s Maxwell Lord and Chris Browning’s Reactron will feature prominently in the first batch of episodes. Now we can add a new DC villain to the list of foes Kara will come up against during her freshman year on the air.

According to Variety, Brit Morgan will play Leslie Willis, better known by her supervillain alias of Livewire, in a guest role on an upcoming Supergirl season one episode. The Supergirl version of the character – who possesses electrical and magnetic powers in the DC comics universe – will be a shock jock working for CatCo Media, the company owned by Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant. However, when an accident leaves her with dangerous new abilities, she ends up facing off with Supergirl.

Livewire’s only previous live-action incarnation thus far was her brief appearance during an episode of Smallville season 8, where she was played by Anna Mae Routledge. The character’s Supergirl origins sound as if they will hew pretty close to her shock-jock role in both the DC comics and Superman: The Animated Series. Her powers could make for some notable special effects sequence, too, even when stacked up against those revolving around Kara’s super-abilities.

With appearances on a number of shows under her belt, Morgan is perhaps best known for her roles as werewolf Debbie Pelt on True Blood and as Amber on Graceland. She’s proven in the past that she is more than capable of holding her own on supernatural dramas (centering on young people with fantastical abilities). So the similar ground – and noticeably lighter tone – of Supergirl should be an easy transition.

CBS’ Supergirl will, by the sound of it, embrace said family-friendly tone, while diving fairly deep into the pool of DC comics mythology from the very beginning. So far, the show’s first stack of episodes are set to feature not just Livewire, Maxwell Lord and Reactron, but also such characters as Red Tornado (making his live-action debut), Kryptonian Non, General Sam Lane (the father of Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s Lucy Lane, Lois Lane’s sister), and Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) – the character who, if Supergirl follows the DC comics’ lead, will become ‘Cyborg Superman’ one day.

Supergirl premieres on CBS at 8:30pm EST on October 26th, 2015. It will air at 8pm EST on Mondays thereafter.
