Artes are an essential part of any Tales Of title, and that remains the case in Tales of Arise, with hundreds of different Artes for you to unlock for your teammates. There are many ways to unlock Artes in Tales of Arise, ranging from earning them via the Skill Panel or experimenting with them in combat encounters and unlocking a whole new Arte as a result.
The Arte system in Tales of Arise is a deep, rewarding combat mechanic that allows you to unleash flashy and devastating spells and attacks on your opponent. Additionally, there are also Healing Artes that will keep your teammates in the battle, even if they have fallen.
Updated December 20, 2021 by Seth Parmer: With it being released for a little over four months now, we’ve had ample time to sink our teeth into Tales of Arise. While this guide already contained every character’s Arte, we felt every character’s description of how their Artes are used in battle, along with their general combat flow, needed to be touched up. This update hopefully makes each character’s role and focus much more straightforward.
Alphen
Alphen’s Artes are focused primarily around his Blazing Sword, with some of them becoming slightly amplified based on his default weapon, which you will frequently upgrade throughout Tales of Arise. What makes Alphen’s Artes unique is their ability to be chained together, allowing him to deal devastating combos that lead directly into air juggles.
Due to Alphen’s ability to apply suffocating pressure on the opponent, he can take the reigns of most battles, making him a fierce and strong leader of the party. Alphen’s main kit relies solely on him launching the opposition into the air, immediately followed with flashy aerial combos that culminate with a devastating slam that sends the enemy hurtling back into the ground. Shionne
Due to her past as a Renan, Shionne has access to some incredible weaponry and Artes to go along with it, making her a phenomenal Support DPS character. When it comes to all of Tales of Arise’s Artes, Shionne may possess the most balanced of the bunch, allowing her to deal sufficient damage while also keeping her entire party alive with Healing Artes, even bringing them back from the brink of death when things get out of control.
Shionne can deal elemental damage to the enemy with bombs that change the surrounding area’s weather, deliver monstrous shots from her rifle, and even summon a swirling tornado of flame and chaos that will overwhelm most targets. Keep in mind, all of this is on top of her excellent healing options, making her one of the game’s best characters by a long shot. Rinwell
While Rinwell definitely seems to be the most innocent and carefree of the bunch, don’t let it fool you. Aside from Tales of Arise’s DLC Artes, Rinwell possesses the most potent Arte Combinations out of any other party member in the game. Her Artes are seriously terrifying and will tear whoever gets caught up in them limb from limb. Rinwell can apply buffs to her entire team or create what can only get described as Pain’s “Planetary Devastation” from Naruto, and it just isn’t right.
Fortunately, Rinwell is on your team and will be putting her absurd Artes to the test on your opponents. As touched on briefly above, Rinwell can buff the entire party’s attack output or summon in many meteors that crash land into the arena. Law
When it comes to Law’s Artes in Tales of Arise, his entire setup requires him to be overly aggressive and up close and personal with the enemy and goes hand in hand with his gauntlets. Law’s fighting style unleashes a flurry of mighty punches and kicks while mixing in powerful Artes throughout. Thanks to his Artes, Law can pull enemies in with the force of powerful winds, then finish the enemy off with a deadly kick once they’re in range.
Law’s Artes are quick, relentless, and well-executed and flow perfectly with his fighting style. Once he’s in your party and on the battlefield, you will notice the tempo has been cranked up to eleven but will also have some breathing room with other characters as Law will attract most of the attention with his aggressiveness. Kisara
It can be relatively easy to overlook Kisara’s Artes because she is the only pure support role in Tales of Arise. However, it’s for that exact reason we urge you to give her a chance as she possesses one of the most unique, powerful, and helpful list of Artes in the entire game. For example, Kisara can stop charging enemies in their tracks with her enormous tower shield, apply light healing to the party, and even deliver considerable damage to the opponent.
On top of her Artes, if you build Kisara’s equipment right, she can become a genuinely unstoppable force of nature that will have every enemy on the battlefield target her, ultimately failing to take her down. Kisara’s rock-solid defense and large health pool allow her to absorb the brunt of the enemy’s incoming attacks, allowing the rest of the team to swoop in with their crazy attacks. Dohalim
Being a Lord of Renan, Dohalim has a handful of incredible Artes at his disposal that he unleashes in bursts as he effortlessly soars through the air with his powerful rod. Dohalim is also just as elegant on the battlefield as he is outside of it, making each encounter look like a breeze. With a combination of Earth, Wind, and Dark Artes, Dohalim can crush his foes in the blink of an eye or heal his team with Healing Artes if things get too serious.
With his ability to heal and resurrect the party, Dohalim’s Healing Artes rivals Shionnes, making him a perfect substitute for the team healer if you need to mix up the playstyle for a particular battle. It’s this mix of power and support that makes Dohalim such a vital party member, and we urge you not to ignore him.
