The triumphant end to the Harry Potter franchise was a treat for viewers. After the slow pace of The Deathly Hallows Part One, Part Two really kicked things into gear and gave fans more than two hours of almost non-stop action. This left less time for conversation between each of the characters than most of the films, but with so many twists and turns and huge moments, the film is also full of some of the best quotes of the series.

10 “The Boy Must Die…”

The reveal of Dumbledore’s true plan, Snape’s real alliance and Harry’s fate at the end of The Deathly Hallows Part Two is the most riveting moment in the franchise; it truly changes everything. Snape’s question, “so when the time comes… the boy must die?” really makes everyone realize what’s at stake here.

Upon hearing those words, a lot of viewers would truly have thought their protagonist wasn’t going to be around much longer.

9 “Always…”

A little later in the same sequence, Snape reveals to Dumbledore (and thus, indirectly, to Harry) that he had been in love with Lily Potter since before Harry was born.

His response to Dumbledore’s inquiry about his feeling, just the word “always”, has become beautifully synonymous with Snape and the true motivations behind his actions.

If there is one character everyone loved the entire way through the Harry Potter franchise, it was Molly Weasley. We’d basically only seen her be kind and motherly to Harry, or comedically overprotective of her own children.

During the Battle Of Hogwarts, Voldemort’s creepy whisper travels through the mind of everyone involved.

His terrifying, well-worded threat is one of his most haunting moments: “Harry Potter, I now speak directly to you. On this night, you have allowed your friends to die for you rather than face me yourself. There is no greater dishonor. Join me in the Forbidden Forest and confront your fate. If you do not do this, I shall kill every last man, woman and child who tries to conceal you from me.”

Following his threat, Voldemort truly thinks he has won. Most people would think that after achieving what he had been trying to do for many, many years, he’d actually check Harry was dead himself, but still.

His cry of “Harry Potter is dead” is powerful even when the audience knows it isn’t true. Plus, the crazed laugh he delivers straight afterwards is one of the most meme-able moments in the Wizarding World.

5 “You Numpty…”

From the start, the entire franchise had been working its way towards the realization of Ron and Hermione’s deep love for each other.

While fighting off Malfoy and his lackeys, Ron finally announces his feelings to the world in true Weasley style: “that’s my girlfriend you numpty!”

“People die every day! Friends, family. Yeah, we lost Harry tonight. But he’s still with us. In here. So are Fred and Remus, Tonks. All of them. They didn’t die in vain, but you will! Because you’re wrong! Harry’s heart did beat for us. For all of us!”

When looking back at the Neville who was awarded ten points for standing up to his friends way back in The Philosopher’s Stone and comparing him to the Neville who stood in front of Voldemort and his entire team of Death Eaters, it’s easy to see one of the most well-developed characters in the history of fiction.

3 “You Okay, Freddie?”

As everyone gears up to fight against the Death Eaters breaking their way into Hogwarts, we catch a glimpse of a few important fighters.

Two of those are the inseparable Fred and George Weasley. The line “you okay, Freddie?” is a throwaway moment at the time, but when it is revealed that this is the last conversation the audience ever saw the pair have before Fred’s heart-breaking death, it becomes one of the saddest lines in the entire franchise.

2 “Piertotum Locomotor…”

Over the years, everyone has seen McGonagall prove herself to be a force to be reckoned with as a teacher. What we very rarely got to see was how she handles herself away from her teaching duties.

Her powerful command of “Piertotum Locomotor! Hogwarts is threatened! Man the boundaries, protect us, do your duties to our school!” proves that her stern power is steadfast outside of the transfiguration classroom. Also, there is no finer McGonagall line that when she delightedly exclaims how “I’ve always wanted to use that spell!” immediately after.

“Harry, you wonderful boy. You brave, brave man” is what Dumbledore says to Harry as they wander through a shiny white limbo.

The calm and joy in Dumbledore’s voice reassures to everyone that Harry has done the right thing, and Dumbledore’s self-correction in order to call Harry a man makes it clear that he views him as an equal.
