It has been 10 years since audiences last saw Ghostface and the excitement for the next Scream movie is at all time high since the first trailer invaded the web. In this new film, Sidney, Gale, and Dewey are back in Woodsboro, along with some fresh characters to deal with a new killing spree.

As the trailer revealed, this Ghostface is going after people related to the original killers, and people on Twitter have had a lot to say about it. They shared their thoughts with many hilarious tweets and memes.

Of course, Sidney Prescott has a gun! After all she’s been through, it’s the least that can be expected of her. In fact, she probably has a gun hiding in every corner of her house.

So when Sidney tells Dewey in this new Scream trailer “I’m Sidney Prescott, of course I have a gun,” Twitter user @GaughtsThoughts had the appropriate joke on hand, using a gif of a woman emptying the barrel of her rifle from her window.

9 Easter in January

Omg is the finale happening in the same house as 1996 Scream’s finale??? pic.twitter.com/NYBW7JXHll

There will be lots of Easter eggs and references to the previous movies in the franchise in this upcoming film, and Twitter users have already spotted a few in this trailer.

For instance, @elie_bdl noticed that the house viewers can see Sidney step in toward the end of the trailer is the seemingly same house where she faced off Stu and Billy in the first Scream movie.

8 Misleading or spoiling?

I really wish trailers for movies, especially horror films, didn’t show as much as they do. I feel like that #Scream trailer showed half of the kills and potentially alluded to a really big spoiler.

Many fans on Twitter are getting upset about the fact that this first trailer seems to be showing a lot of spoilers regarding the upcoming movie. Disappointment is a recurring feeling expressing in many tweets, like @wind_tempos’, but it looks like the trailer might be very misleading.

Indeed, the cast of Scream themselves may not know Ghostface’s identity in the new film, as well as certain plot points. The actors were in fact given several versions of the script to keep key spoilers under wrap, and many alternative scenes were shot. Who knows if what’s in the trailer is even in the actual movie.

7 That ’90s vibe

New #Scream trailer and new #HomeAlone trailer on the same day. My mind is blown. All I need is a new #PrettyWoman trailer, and I know I’ve died and gone to 90s heaven.

Sometimes, releasing a trailer for the return of a highly anticipated movie franchise is all about timing, and it appears that for many Twitter fans, the Scream trailer brought back all the nostalgia it could muster as it also happened to be released on the same day the trailer for the Home Alone reboot Home Sweet Home Alone came out.

As Twitter user @evansolomita noted, the internet is just a few movie remakes or reboots away from feeling like it’s the 1990s all over again.

6 The Prime Suspect

you’re telling me it’s not him??? #Scream pic.twitter.com/S6iY3V3lha

For some reason, many Twitter users have decided that Dylan Minette has to be the new Ghostface. In this new film, Minette plays the role of Wes Hicks, a young man potentially related to Judy Hicks (who was a classmate of Sidney and eventually became a deputy officer working with Dewey).

Now there is nothing that says Wes has anything to do with the killings, but maybe there is something about his blonde hair or the fact that Minette has played mysterious characters before that has Twitter users like @naturalhorror suspecting him to be at the center of it all.

5 Not a Halloween movie

Unreasonably annoyed that #scream is dropping in January and not…you know…now.

One could have reasonably expected, like Twitter user @ChaceMcLees, that this new Scream movie would come out during the spookiest month of the year: October. Unfortunately for those who hoped to see Ghostface again before Halloween, the film is only coming out in January 2022.

The movie was initially scheduled to come out in 2021 but its filming was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, therefore pushing out the release date. Plus, with Halloween Kills being released in October 2021, it is likely Paramount chose to avoid the competition.

4 Hello, Sidney

HELLO SYDNEY, IT’S AN HONOR #SCREAM #SCREAM5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pic.twitter.com/jKPZIXNYJd

Many things are unclear about the movie’s plot and despite the fact that the official synopsis has been unveiled, no one really knows what will go down in this film except for one certain thing: Sidney will once again face a killer dressed as Ghostface.

Therefore, one line of dialogue featured in the trailer is already iconic and had fans all over the world, like Twitter user @PNKAMR, scream at their screens when it was uttered: “Hello Sidney, it’s an honor.”

3 Dewey must be protected

Dewey will be fine Scream 5. Nothing bad will happen to Dewey in Scream 5. Dewey is safe in Scream 5. pic.twitter.com/MRzDfwvkNz

Like many other characters in the franchise, Dewey has come very close to dying in Scream, so fans are very worried about his fate in the upcoming film. David Arquette is reprising the role after being in all the previous iteration of the franchise, so it is fair to have concerns that this time Dewey might not making out alive.

Therefore, many Twitter users like @johnnyscobra are already putting it out there that they hope with all their might that Dewey will once again come out safe and sound of any encounter he may have with Ghostface.

2 Title confusion

Halloween I can forgive since there are like eight different Halloween 2s. This, however, is definitively, unquestionably Scream 5. All the marketing tricks in the world aren’t changing that. It’s Scream 5. https://t.co/I4CTTtWXQZ

The Twitter-sphere is still confused about the title of this movie, and rightfully so. No one seems to understand why the movie is called Scream and not Scream 5, and many reactions to the trailer seem to highlight that sentiment.

Like @SugaRazor points out, this movie is very much a follow-up of the narrative seen in the previous movies, but the intent here is to use this new Scream as a launching pad for the new iteration of the franchise. It’s not exactly a horror reboot, it’s also a sequel with a new identity.

1 Two Franchises colliding

It’s Rey… She did it…. #Scream pic.twitter.com/WzevHadvZN

The internet had a lot to say about this first trailer, but Twitter also had some thoughts about the film’s poster. User @Bosslogic had a clever idea to unmask Ghostface and photoshopped one of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi poster onto the Scream poster, making it look like Rey is the masked killer.

Other jokes were made around the Twitter-sphere following the release of the trailer and there is no doubt that audiences are ready for the movie to come out. Now it’s all about waiting until January.
