The art of battle in Pokémon is a tough one to master, but it’s hard to view these cute critters as just fighters. Pokémon come in different shapes and sizes, and the options are innumerable, but the design of some of these Pocket Monsters is too cute to pass up. Some of the most endearing types are the Monsters that resemble aquatic creatures.

But where these Pokémon score high in cuteness points, some of them lose in battle utility. With poor stats and limited move pools, these Pokémon are for enthusiasts who like collecting lovable Pokémon. And some of these characters are just cuddle-worthy.

10 Arrokuda

Introduced in Generation VIII, Arrokuda is a cute Water-type Pokémon based on a barracuda. It is known as the Rush Pokémon and it charges at anything that makes the slightest movement using its dorsal fins that act as a propeller. Arrokuda is a loveable Pokémon, with its earnest toothy grin and unassuming gaze. It is also pretty handy in battle, with a decent speed stat and vast move pool offering great type coverage.

Arrokuda evolves at Level 26 into Barraskewda where, unfortunately, it becomes a menacing aquatic type and not so cute anymore.

9 Remoraid

The Jet Pokémon introduced in Generation II, Remoraid and its evolutionary tree are based on military weapons, with its upper body resembling the barrel of a gun. This Pokémon is known for its superb accuracy, which allows it to hit moving targets up to 300 feet away.

Remoraid is extremely plump and squishy to look at, but its interactions with other Pokémon make it less so. In the wild, Remoraid interacts with another Water-type Pokémon called Mantine, where it uses its dorsal fins to stick to Mantine’s underside to scavenge for leftovers.

8 Barboach

Native to the Hoenn region, Barboach is a dual-type Water and Ground Pokémon that resembles a loach, which is a bottom-dwelling fish. Barboach lives deep in murky waters and has several adorable sniffling blue whiskers, which it uses as a radar.

With its tiny beady eyes and small open mouth, it has a very spaced out and constantly confused look, making this Pokémon instantly endearing. While Barboach’s dual typing gives it immunity from Electric-type attacks, it leaves itself very vulnerable to Grass-type moves, which can do up to four times as much damage!

7 Wishiwashi

A seriously adorable Water-type Pokémon from Generation VII, Wishiwashi is known as the Small Fry Pokémon and is one of the weakest water types around. With its teary eyes and ever-present helpless expression, Wishiwashi seems to be an easy target for predator Pokémon, but this tiny fish has an ace up its sleeve.

When in trouble, Wishiwashi calls its fellow Pokémon for help and gangs up to form a giant fish made up of smaller individuals in a phenomenon known as Schooling. It’s quantity over quality for this little Pokémon with puppy dog eyes.

6 Horsea

Horsea is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I, which is based on a seahorse and is a highly adept swimmer. Despite its small size, it can withstand strong currents using its tightly curled tail as an anchor and its baby-like appearance makes it one of the cuter Pocket Monsters around.

It squirts out black ink at predators when endangered and can escape tricky situations with its Smokescreen attack. Horsea lays thousands of eggs during breeding season, which when hatched, are raised by the male Horsea. This Dragon Pokémon evolves into the intimidating Seadra at Level 32 and then into the mighty Kingdra when traded with a Dragon Scale.

5 Tynamo

Tynamo is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V, and it resembles a very small, very happy eel. It is a tiny and vulnerable Pokémon that releases trickles of electricity when threatened.

Tynamo is textbook cute with its diminutive stature and large, shiny eyes. It has the ability of Levitate, which allows it to move above the ground in a swimming-like motion, avoiding ground moves that weaken it immensely. It evolves into Eelectrik at Level 39, which then evolves into Eelektross using a Thunderstone, but its cuteness gets lost on the way.

4 Finneon

Finneon, the Wing Fish Pokémon, is a Water-type Pokémon and was introduced in Generation IV. It uses its wing-like fins to swim in graceful movements, which earned it the name, “Beautifly of the Sea.”

This elegant Pokémon stores sunlight in the pink stripe on its body, which then enables it to shine vividly in the night. However, in battle, Finneon has very poor offensive stats and a limited move pool, leading to it being overlooked on most Pokémon trainer teams. It wins in the looks department, though.

3 Chinchou

Chinchou is a dual-type Water and Electric Pokémon introduced in Generation II and it looks like an anglerfish. Chinchou uses the soft glow from the orbs on its antennae to lure and entice prey. They also use a series of flashes to communicate with its kind and to claim territory.

The antennae can also conduct electrical currents, which it uses to zap enemies, however, sometimes the charge is too much and it zaps itself. Chinchou’s adorable round body, soft glowy light, and almost quizzical expression make it an instant favorite, just not in battle.

2 Luvdisc

A Water-type Pokémon from Generation III, Luvdisc is an endearing Pokémon with a simple heart-shaped design. It is known as the Rendezvous Pokémon since couples who catch sight of one on the seas are blessed with eternal love, and little else is cuter than that.

During the spring, Luvdiscs swim across the oceans in groups, making the water’s surface glisten a bright pink. These Pokémon love warm water and make their nests in the branches of Corsola. The heart shape is an instant hit for players who love good-looking ‘Mons.

1 Mantyke

Mantyke is a Water and Flying Baby dual-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV. It evolves into Mantine when leveled up with Remoraid in a trainer’s party. Mantyke are created using manta rays as inspiration and are very friendly Pokémon that are easy to tame.

They are very popular on beaches and are seen living with Remoraid. They use their antennae to sense the ocean flow and team up with Remoraid to repel attackers. This baby Pokémon is extremely charming and has people flocking in tour groups to watch it swim and jump across the waves.
