If there is one thing that stands out more in James Bond films than the Bond girls, it’s the vehicles. Whether its a car chase through rocky mountain terrain in Italy or through the streets of Japan, James Bond always drives a car that makes a splash. They usually come equipped with the highest in technological accessories and weapons that are indispensable when helping Bond save the world.

Seeing as Bond gets into his fair share of car chases, it is important that the vehicles he drives are fast and can dodge any blockades that he may encounter. Throughout the entire franchise, many of these fast cars have been piloted by the great 007.

10 Aston Martin DBS

This car made two appearances in the Bond universe, in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace. The DBS, able to go from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds and reach a quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds at 117 mph, can be categorized as the fastest car in the franchise.

In Casino Royale, it comes to an unfortunate end rather quickly, when Bond swerves to avoid Vesper Lynd. It makes a second appearance in Quantum of Solace, during a car chase in Italy.

9 Aston Martin Vanquish

This car made an appearance in Die Another Day, during the 40th anniversary of the franchise. Due to its size, it comes a close second to the DBS, able to reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and a quarter of a mile in 12.9 seconds at 115mph.

The car comes equipped with many accessories, including a cloaking device, which is featured heavily throughout the film. To film properly on the ice, it came with increased traction in its wheels and four-wheel drive.

8 Aston Martin DB5

Many evolutions of this car appear throughout the franchise, including in Goldeneye and Tomorrow Never Dies. Despite not being the fastest ride that Bond ever had, it is still able to reach 60mph relatively quickly, at 8.1 seconds, and has top speeds of 240 km/h aided by a 5-speed manual transmission.

As a car model, it’s also gone through many evolutions. This is made apparent when, in Goldeneye, it manages to keep pace with a Ferrari.

7 BMW Z8

This slick ride is introduced in The World Is Not Enough. It demonstrates the evolution of the efficiency of Bond’s vehicles because it can reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and a quarter of a mile in 13 seconds at 111 mph. It’s also fitted with a missile and titanium armor.

This BMW, unfortunately, meets an unfortunate end, when it is cut in half by a missile.

6 Toyota 2000GT Convertible

In the film, You Only Live Twice, Bond girl Aki drives a Toyota 2000GT convertible. This is quite a customized car because, at the time, this model did not come as a convertible. However, due to Sean Connery’s height, changes had to be made last minute to the vehicle.

It is a close second behind the Aston Martin DB5 as one of Bond’s slower cars. However, it can still reach 60 mph in 8.2 seconds and the quarter-mile in 16.3 seconds, at 87 mph.

5 Lotus Esprit Turbo

This car made quite a splash in The Spy Who Loved Me, as it can turn into a submarine. However, because of all of the additional accessories, it took quite a long time to reach 60 mph (9.6 seconds) and a quarter-mile, at 17.3 seconds at 79 mph.

However, the updated model, the Lotus Espite Turbo, was significantly faster, after being fitted with a Garrett T3 turbocharger and two Dellorto carburetors. It also came with a splashy new crimson color and added ski rack in For Your Eyes Only.

4 BMW 750iL

In Tomorrow Never Dies, the BMW 750oil is a massive improvement on the Z3 of the previous film. It has significantly more horsepower and three times as many cylinders. This allows it to reach 60 mph in 6.3 seconds and the quarter-mile in 14.8 seconds, at 98 mph.

It also comes with an assortment of gadgets, including being able to operate it via cell phone, voice capability, and re-inflating tires. Unfortunately, the car becomes a casualty of the film when it crashes off of a seven-story parking lot.

3 BMW Z3

This car is on par with the Aston Martin DB5 in terms of speed. Most of this is due to all of its special features, including stinger missiles and an all-points radar system. However, it still maintained a top speed of 222km/h.

The car subsequently had a surge in popularity and the “Bond Edition” vehicles sold out within hours of being made available to the public.

2 Aston Martin V8 Vantage

This car accompanied Timothy Dalton in his new role as 007 in The Living Daylights. It is known as a “supercar” because of its speed (able to reach 60 mph in a little over 5 seconds). Like your classic Bond car, it comes with a wheel laser, missiles, and a rocket booster.

A significant change that was made is that the car ran fuel injection, which allowed for it to achieve a better performance than previous models.

1 Ford Mustang Mach 1

The Ford Mustang Mach 1 made an appearance in Diamonds Are Forever and is an improved version of the classic model. Classified as a muscle car, it has a 3-speed automatic transmission and between 213 and 380 horsepower.

The car becomes a great asset for Bond when he and Tiffany Case evade capture from villains by skating the vehicle on two wheels between a narrow passage.
