9 The Hangover Part II ($254 Million)

The film’s plot felt like a repeat of the original film, only it was darker and raunchier, leading to poor reviews. Despite this, it still nabbed $254 million from the box office.

The 2009 comedy took in $277 million from the box office and unlike the sequel, people found it to be super fresh.

7 The Matrix Reloaded ($281 Million)

6 Deadpool 2 ($324 Million)

The acting and emotion had many critics raving. They also praised the overall scariness and cinematography. The $327 million practically rolled in.

4 Joker ($328 Million)

The film garnered loads of attention and Joaquin Phoenix, in the titular role, received praise for his genuine portrayal. The $328 million box office score seemed to come naturally.

3 American Sniper ($350 Million)

However, when a scientist offers Wilson a crazy cure for his illness, he decides to take a chance. While Wilson ends up with scars all over his body, he also receives high-level healing powers. After transforming into Deadpool, he decides to hunt out the guy who almost destroyed him.

The dark and aware-of-itself humor is thick in this one and caused fans to flock to it. This had the tale ultimately bringing in $363 million at the domestic box office.

1 The Passion Of The Christ ($370 Million)

Topping off the list as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time is The Passion of the Christ.

This 2004 biblical drama dramatizes the story of Jesus as told in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John as well as other religious materials. It focuses on his last 12 hours, ending briefly with his resurrection.

Though many found the film to be far too gory and uncomfortable, the film’s grand scale had viewers flocking to theaters. It ultimately pulled in $370 million at the domestic box office.
