The Ascent is off to a strong start, as its publisher – Curve Digital – today revealed more than $5 million in revenue was generated during its launch weekend. It also mentioned The Ascent claimed the top spot on Steam’s Global Charts, proving the cyberpunk genre is still alive and well.

Beyond impressive sales figures, the top-down shooter managed to generate over 10 million views across YouTube and Twitch, with the team claiming community engagement has become a key part of The Ascent’s success.

“The Ascent is the first game out of Curve where our new team has been able to substantially make their mark, working closely with the developer and our platform partners,” John Clark, Curve CEO, said. “This success is the result of a genuine team effort throughout the company, the arrival of new leadership and talent, and is truly reflective of our new approach of being developer and player-focused in all that we do.”

The Ascent’s $5 million in sales accounts for copies sold on PC and Xbox and does not include the numbers from Xbox Game Pass – if those were included, expect that number to be much larger.

If you happen to be playing The Ascent on Xbox, you’ll be happy to know the team is planning to bring ray tracing and DLSS to the game sometime in the future. Those missing features account for the largest discrepancy between PC and console, however, there’s no firm date as to when it’ll finally arrive.

Having launched on Xbox Game Pass on July 29, The Ascent seems to have quickly become one of the most popular games of this slow summer season. Offering a gritty take on the cyberpunk genre, tense twin-stick shooter combat, and an engaging storyline, it’s no surprise the game is performing as well as it is. The dystopian shooter is best played with a few friends, but there’s still plenty of action to go around if you decide to head to Veles as a solo player.
