The recent ports of Final Fantasy VII all shipped with an annoying glitch that affected the music, which has finally prompted Square Enix to release a patch for the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions of the game.

The music glitch in Final Fantasy VII causes the background music to reset after a battle ends. In the original version of Final Fantasy VII, the background music would pause when a battle started and would resume when it ended. The glitch isn’t game breaking by any means, but it was frustrating to those who didn’t want to hear the same short bursts of music over and over again.

The issues with the ports of Final Fantasy VII have been around since the 2013 Steam release and it cropped up again on the recent Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions of the game. Square Enix has finally released a patch that fixes the issue, along with resolving other minor bugs involving cutscene transitions and incorrect audio being played in certain areas.

The audio bug has been fixed in the PC version of Final Fantasy VII for a while now, but it’s still present in the PlayStation 4 release of the game. There is currently no word on whether Square Enix is working on a patch for the PlayStation 4 version of the game. It’s possible that the potential new audience for the game among the Microsoft & Nintendo fans has prompted Square Enix to take the plunge and fix the audio glitch, which was covered by many outlets upon the release of the Nintendo Switch & Xbox One ports of Final Fantasy VII.

Square Enix recently released a trailer for the Final Fantasy VII Remake at Sony’s recent State of Play event, with more information promised to be revealed at E3 2019. The Final Fantasy VII Remake is promising to be one of Square Enix’s biggest games of all time, but it has the potential to disappoint the fans of the original who feel it might be too different from the game they love. At least it’s now possible to enjoy the original on new systems without the frustrating audio glitch.

The patch that fixes the music in the Nintendo Switch & Xbox One versions of Final Fantasy VII is available now.
