The Flash will bring back Michael Keaton’s Batman and it will also see two versions of Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen, and one of them might be wearing Keaton’s Batman suit with a couple of changes. The DC Extended Universe has become one of the two dominating universes in the superhero genre along with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but unlike its competition, its road to success hasn’t been the smoothest. The DCEU began in 2013 with Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, and after a couple of ups and downs, the underperformance of Justice League led Warner Bros. to change its plans for its future movies.

While some movies went through a shift in tone and some characters got their own adventures, other projects encountered a series of obstacles that delayed them for a while, as is the case of The Flash. After a couple of changes in writers and directors, The Flash finally settled with Christina Hodson as screenwriter and Andy Muschietti as director, and so filming began in April 2021. Through filming, Muschietti shared different images teasing the tone of The Flash, as were the Batman symbol on Keaton’s suit splattered with blood and the same symbol now with Flash’s signature lightning bolt and colors over it. Production wrapped in early October 2021 just in time for a first look to be released during the DC FanDome virtual event, and thanks to it, the aforementioned images made a lot more sense.

The first trailer for The Flash showed how the story is influenced by fan-favorite comic book storyline Flashpoint, in which Barry Allen travels back in time to prevent his mother’s death, but this brings major consequences to his timeline. As the DCEU is already dealing with its own multiverse, Barry’s travels through time will make way for the inclusion of characters from past movies, as is Keaton’s Batman from Tim Burton’s Batman and Batman Returns and Ben Affleck’s version of the Caped Crusader from Batman v Superman and Justice League. Keaton is being teased to have an important role in the story, probably serving as a mentor to Barry Allen – but The Flash is having two versions of Barry Allen, and one of them seems to be wearing Keaton’s Batman suit with a couple of changes.

Fans have pointed out that the second Flash’s costume doesn’t look like that of main-universe Barry Allen, even though he’s somewhat hidden in the shadows behind him. Aside from the logo being different (Barry’s is a white circle with gold on the outside and the lightning bolt over it, while the other Flash’s logo is yellow and is painted over the suit), the second Flash’s costume looks bulkier and more armor-like, pointing at him wearing Keaton’s Batman suit, just like the image Muschietti shared. This theory is supported by a brief scene in The Flash trailer where Barry (whichever version) is spray-painting a pair of boots with a lightning bolt – now, this particular scene has been interpreted in different ways, but it could still be the second Flash preparing his own costume, especially as the lightning bolt is the same color as the one on his chest, which is also spray-painted. Another detail that can support this is that Wayne Manor and the Batcave look to be abandoned, so it wouldn’t have been hard for the second Flash to steal the suit and adapt it.

Some fans have theorized that this second Flash is actually Reverse-Flash, who is rumored to be the main antagonist in The Flash. The second Barry Allen, then, could end up taking the villainous mantle of Reverse-Flash at some point in the movie and will turn his Batman/Flash suit yellow. The Flash trailer did a great job in establishing the main idea of the story without revealing too much about it, and with over a year to go before its release, fans will continue coming up with different theories on what the roles of the different Batman versions will be, who the second Flash really is, and who the main villain of the story will be.
