Wes Anderson has been known for his sprawling ensemble casts since introducing the vast network of relatives and family friends at the beginning of The Royal Tenenbaums. The director’s latest opus, The French Dispatch, has an even bigger ensemble than usual, because it’s an anthology movie made up of three short stories with a framing narrative.

The movie features regular Anderson cohorts like Bill Murray and Owen Wilson, as well as newcomers like Jeffrey Wright and Timothée Chalamet. Between them, this cast has a ton of exciting upcoming projects.

10 Bill Murray – Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania (July 28, 2023)

In a recent interview, regular Anderson collaborator Bill Murray gave away his casting in the new Ant-Man movie. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer are all reprising their MCU roles in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, set to be released on July 28, 2023.

It’s unclear who Murray will play as of yet, but it has been confirmed that Kathryn Newton is joining the cast as the new Cassie Lang and Jonathan Majors will play Kang the Conqueror (introduced as “He Who Remains” in Loki’s season finale).

9 Owen Wilson – Haunted Mansion (2022)

Owen Wilson, one of Anderson’s closest colleagues from the very beginning, is set to star in a new Haunted Mansion movie. Disney is taking another crack at turning its family-friendly haunted house theme park ride into a family-friendly haunted house movie. It’ll be directed by Dear White People’s Justin Simien and written by The Heat’s Katie Dippold.

The plot sees a single mom named Gabbie hiring a priest, a tour guide, a psychic, and a historian to exorcize the ghosts from her new mansion. The film has an awesome cast lined up: Rosario Dawson as Gabbie, Wilson as the priest, Lakeith Stanfield as the tour guide, Tiffany Haddish as the psychic, and Danny DeVito as the college history professor. The movie has no official release date, but it’s expected to hit theaters in 2022.

8 Timothée Chalamet – Bones & All (TBD)

After playing student revolutionary Zeffirelli in Anderson’s latest opus, Timothée Chalamet is reuniting with Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino.

Guadagnino usually helms human dramas like A Bigger Splash, but introduced audiences to his sumptuous vision of horror in the 2018 remake of Suspiria. The director is returning to the genre for the Chalamet-starring Bones & All, a curious blend of horror and romance.

7 Tilda Swinton – Three Thousand Years Of Longing (TBD)

George Miller is following up the high-octane vehicular carnage of Mad Max: Fury Road with a decidedly quieter, more cerebral movie. Three Thousand Years of Longing is an epic fantasy romance set to star Tilda Swinton, who played J.K.L. Berensen in The French Dispatch, and Idris Elba.

The story concerns a contented scholar who is offered three wishes by a Djinn. The movie follows the ramifications of their conversation in an Istanbul hotel room.

6 Edward Norton – Knives Out 2 (TBD)

Netflix has paid a pretty penny for the distribution rights to two Knives Out sequels. Writer-director Rian Johnson is back for another Benoit Blanc whodunit featuring Edward Norton, who played the sinister kidnapper “The Chauffeur” in The French Dispatch.

Daniel Craig is reprising his role as Blanc, an American Poirot, supported by a star-studded ensemble including Norton, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Jessica Henwick, and Ethan Hawke. The as-yet-untitled Knives Out sequel has no determined release date on Netflix, but it’ll be followed by Knives Out 3 to conclude the trilogy.

5 Adrien Brody – Blonde (2022)

After playing art dealer Julian Cadazio in The French Dispatch, Adrien Brody will next be seen in Blonde, Andrew Dominik’s adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same name fictionalizing the life of Marilyn Monroe. The movie was delayed by some behind-the-scenes disputes because Netflix expected an Oscar-baity biopic and Dominik turned in a graphic arthouse opus.

Mercifully, Netflix has decided to release Dominik’s vision of Blonde uncut in 2022. Ana de Armas will star as Monroe, while Brody will play one of Monroe’s unnamed lovers: Brody plays “The Playwright” (Arthur Miller), Bobby Cannavale plays “The Ex-Athlete” (Joe DiMaggio), and Caspar Phillipson plays “The President” (John F. Kennedy).

4 Frances McDormand – Women Talking (TBD)

Frances McDormand played her biggest Wes Anderson role to date in The French Dispatch as Lucinda Krementz, a journalist profiling the student revolutionaries. The Oscar winner will next be seen in Women Talking from writer-director Sarah Polley, based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Miriam Toews.

The dark story will follow a group of Mennonite women who are attacked by demons in the night as punishment for their sins. McDormand will star alongside Rooney Mara, Ben Whishaw, Claire Foy, and Jessie Buckley.

3 Jeffrey Wright – The Batman (March 4, 2022)

Jeffrey Wright has been having a great year. His captivating voice narrated Marvel’s animated What If…? series, his Felix Leiter got a heartfelt send-off alongside Daniel Craig’s Bond in No Time to Die, and his turn as food critic-turned-true crime writer Roebuck Wright was one of the most memorable performances in The French Dispatch.

On March 4, 2022, Wright will be seen as Commissioner Gordon in The Batman. Wright’s Gordon will debut alongside Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne and Zoë Kravitz’s Selina Kyle.

2 Léa Seydoux – Crimes Of The Future (TBD)

After playing prison guard and artistic muse Simone in The French Dispatch, Léa Seydoux is starring in David Cronenberg’s Crimes of the Future. While the plot is being kept under wraps, the movie will see Cronenberg return to his “body horror” roots.

Following their widely acclaimed work on Eastern Promises and A History of Violence, Crimes of the Future will mark Cronenberg’s long-awaited reunion with Viggo Mortensen.

1 Several Wes Anderson Collaborators – Asteroid City (TBD)

Since The French Dispatch was delayed through the pandemic, Anderson is already hard at work on his next movie. Described as a romantic ensemble piece about a group of intelligent teens, Asteroid City has been shooting in Spain with no official release date lined up.

The cast will feature French Dispatch cast members like Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Adrien Brody, Jeffrey Wright, and Jason Schwartzman, as well as a few Anderson collaborators who weren’t in The French Dispatch (Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson) and some first-timers who have never worked with Anderson before (Tom Hanks, Margot Robbie).
