Homer and Lisa have one of the sweetest relationships in The Simpsons. They often clash ideologically on issues like the meat industry, but ultimately, Homer couldn’t be prouder of Lisa and, although she’s a lot smarter than him at just eight years old, Lisa loves her dad and looks up to him.

From Lisa spending her entire spring break at the nuclear power plant with her dad to Homer giving up sleep entirely to take on a second job to pay for a pony to make Lisa happy, this father-daughter pairing is responsible for some of The Simpsons’ most heartfelt storylines.

10 Homer And Lisa Exchange Cross Words (Season 20, Episode 6)

In season 20’s, “Homer and Lisa Exchange Cross Words,” Lisa discovers her knack for crosswords and takes part in a national championship. Homer makes a ton of money betting on Lisa and ends up making his biggest score yet by reluctantly betting against her.

Lisa feels so betrayed that she renounces the Simpson name and instead takes her mother’s maiden name and starts going by “Lisa Bouvier.” Homer redeems himself by introducing Lisa to crossword legend Will Shortz.

9 Lost Our Lisa (Season 9, Episode 24)

After Marge refuses to give Lisa permission to go to the museum on her own in season 9’s “Lost Our Lisa,” she calls Homer at work and tricks him into giving her permission.

When she takes the bus too far and gets lost in an unfamiliar part of town, Homer scours the town looking for her. He steals a cherry picker to get a better view and then ends up getting his head stuck in a closing drawbridge. When he finally finds her, he takes her to the museum and breaks in so she can still see the exhibit.

8 Lisa The Vegetarian (Season 7, Episode 5)

After a visit to a petting zoo, Lisa decides she can no longer eat the meat of an animal and refuses to consume her mother’s carnivorous dinner. Meanwhile, Homer starts planning a barbecue for the entire town to rival Flanders’ own cookout.

Naturally, these two storylines intertwine when Lisa steals Homer’s meticulously prepared hog roast – the star of the event – and sends it flying into a dam.

7 Lisa’s Substitute (Season 2, Episode 19)

Lisa is the focus of season 2’s “Lisa’s Substitute,” but her relationship with her substitute teacher Mr. Bergstrom – played by guest star Dustin Hoffman – is contrasted interestingly with her relationship with Homer.

While Bergstrom recognizes Lisa’s talents, Homer often overlooks them. While Bergstrom is interested in all the intellectual subjects Lisa is, Homer struggles to care.

6 Lisa’s Pony (Season 3, Episode 8)

When Homer watches some home movies and realizes he’s been a terrible parent to Lisa for her whole life, he decides to make up for it with an extravagant gesture: making every little girl’s dream come true and buying her a pony.

However, since pony maintenance is a big expense, Homer has to take a second job at the Kwik-E-Mart, allowing himself about five minutes of sleep a day.

5 Bart On The Road (Season 7, Episode 20)

The A-plot of season 7’s “Bart on the Road” revolves around Bart printing himself a fake driver’s license and taking his pals on a road trip in a rented car.

But the B-plot sees Lisa spending her entire spring break at the nuclear plant, bonding with Homer. They make up fun games to play to make the time pass and Lisa tells Homer about the boy she has a crush on: Langdon Alger.

4 Lisa The Beauty Queen (Season 4, Episode 4)

When a caricaturist makes Lisa feel self-conscious about her looks in season 4’s “Lisa the Beauty Queen,” Homer reluctantly sells his Duff blimp ticket to enter her in a beauty pageant.

Lisa only ends up being the runner-up in the initial contest but clinches the crown when the true winner is struck by lightning while holding the Little Miss Springfield scepter.

3 Homer Vs. Lisa And The 8th Commandment (Season 2, Episode 13)

Since the Bible says, “Thou shalt not steal,” Lisa feels very uncomfortable when Homer gets an illegal cable hook-up so he can invite his friends over to watch every major sporting event.

When everybody comes over for the World Heavyweight Championship boxing match, Lisa sits outside on the front step in protest. Homer reluctantly misses the fight to join her.

2 Lisa The Greek (Season 3, Episode 14)

Homer discovers Lisa’s talent for predicting the winners of football games in season 3’s “Lisa the Greek,” so he uses it to bleed Moe dry. Lisa enjoys bonding with her dad over football until she realizes he’s just using her to make money.

Lisa is disappointed that Homer doesn’t want to keep spending Sundays with her when the NFL season is over, so he cancels his bowling game with Barney and goes hiking with his daughter instead.

1 Lisa’s Wedding (Season 6, Episode 19)

Lisa gets a glimpse into her future in the season 6 episode “Lisa’s Wedding,” The Simpsons’ first flash-forward episode and still the best by far. Lisa meets a charming British man named Hugh and they become engaged and travel back to Springfield for the wedding.

When Hugh refuses to wear the goofy cufflinks that Homer gave him, Lisa realizes she’s marrying the wrong guy and calls off the wedding. Back in the present, the story reaffirms Lisa’s love for her father as she meets up with him and they leave the carnival together.
