Intelligence reports from two highly trusted Activision leakers, Call of Duty News and TheGamingRevoltuion, reveal an upcoming promotional effort shared amongst Doritos and the forthcoming 2020 Call of Duty title. This image proves prior leaks taken from the Microsoft and PSN stores, which initially coined this new franchise entry with the placeholder name The Red Room in its infancy.
Now the whole world knows the next stage in the Call of Duty: Black Ops saga will be titled Cold War. Although it may be a mouthful, at least it’s not simply some near-future Black Ops Five.
The leaked Doritos promotion doesn’t reveal too much in the way of actual information regarding what’s in the game, aside from a Call of Duty-specific page on the Doritos website, which as of writing only leads back to the main Doritos page, in addition to an unlockable year-long two-times experience multiplier code available up until January 31, 2021. This could suggest that the new Black Ops entry won’t reach shelves until the start of the promotion on October 5th, or later into the month, mirroring Modern Warfare’s similar promotion and eventual October 25th debut, though it’s extremely hard to tell just yet given previous reports of a major delay.
Despite now nearing the end of July and even the year itself, not a single word from either Activision or Treyarch on what this game will look like is more than a little frustrating for patient long-time fans, especially given the ever-surmounting tidbits of leaks cropping up over the past several weeks. One such round of inside-information released via Call of Duty dataminers revealed a payload of sensitive in-game content and even suggested that the game would be titled CIA. This could still be potentially an in-game mode, similar to Warzone and Blackout, though TheGamingRevoltuion did say that the Black Ops reveal would “seem unofficial.”
Given that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is arguably among the most anticipated games of the year, dedicated fans must then keep their eyes peeled on every leaked report and be able to spot the most credible shred of sensitive data. Akin to the Cold War itself, the reveal of the rebooted Call of Duty: Black Ops will be as silent as it is heart pounding.
There is no doubt this rebooted Black Ops title will be extraordinary, but hopefully, it doesn’t overshadow Modern Warfare.
