It sounds like those The Witcher 3 new-gen upgrades may be on the way soon, as the Game of the Year Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series just secured PEGI ratings. Back in July, CD Projekt Red indicated late 2021 as a launch window for a, once again, enhanced version of the hit open-world RPG.

The Pan European Game Information board has provided an official rating for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt PS5 and Xbox Series X/S native versions, listing them both as launching today, October 19. Game ratings are often issued shortly before release, but in a statement to GamesRadar, CDPR clarified that “the date mentioned on PEGI’s website is the rating’s issue date.” So no, you can’t play with a shiny new coat of paint just yet.

The Witcher 3 is also getting “extra items inspired by the Netflix series,” so there’s a possibility the release could be timed with The Witcher’s season two premiere on Netflix, currently scheduled for December 17. CDPR hasn’t said if that’s the case yet.

The Netflix-inspired DLC will be available for free if you own the game on any platform (including Nintendo Switch). Peeks at the new show content aren’t available yet, either, but it’s likely new skins references to the live-action series.

As for the other benefits the next-gen upgrade will bring, you can expect full 4K resolution support for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, as well as overhauled visuals that may include popular fan mods for the PC version. CDPR still hasn’t detailed everything coming with the upgrade, only hinting that Saber Interactive, which earlier worked on the Switch version of The Witcher 3, is largely involved in the production.

In addition to The Witcher 3 next-gen update, CDPR is currently working on Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 and Xbox Series X/S native versions. The studio announced these are also scheduled for late 2021, yet the team remains equally discreet about what updates Cyberpunk will see.
