The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a brand new, free-to-play mobile RPG set before the events of CD Projekt Red’s iconic The Witcher trilogy. The game’s story apparently revolves around the creation of the “witcher” as a dangerous but newly necessary profession, as strange monsters begin to roam the vast expanses of The Continent.

According to an official press release, The Witcher: Monster Slayer uses special AR tech in order to transform the real world into the dark and gloomy recesses of The Witcher’s perilous forests and treacherous mountains. You can check out the official trailer for The Witcher: Monster Slayer in the video embedded below.

As you can see in the trailer, a man is walking through the woods with his dog, minding his own business. As his dog begins to bark, he raises his phone and peers through its lens, allowing the game’s augmented reality tech to take root and realize the encroaching threat of a giant leshen.

According to the press release, the game features “console-grade graphics,” and involves the types of tracking, studying, and fighting you’d expect to encounter as a jobbing witcher. This is enabled by a range of different systems, such as a day and night cycle, weather conditions, and the kind of potion and decoction brewing expertise necessary to become a successful witcher.

There’s also a leveling system, which you’ll need to pump time and effort into if you plan on emerging victorious from precarious combat encounters with werewolves and wyverns.

There are also a wide range of quests in The Witcher: Monster Slayer, all of which are inspired by the storytelling of the main trilogy that players all over the world have become enamored with since it launched back in 2015.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer is set to launch on both Android and iOS. At present, there is no fixed release date, but more news will be revealed later this year.
