Hopes for The Witcher’s Geralt appearing in another game this year were abound after a tweet strongly hinted at the possibility. Now, anonymous sources are claiming that Geralt’s next adventure will be as a guest character in Soulcalibur VI. Geralt’s design and combat abilities certainly fit the Soulcalibur world, and the tweet and anonymous claims came at similar and convenient times. It seems very likely that the White Wolf will be entering the stage of history to cross swords with Nightmare and the rest.
The tweet that set fans to mad speculation came from an employee of The Witcher developer’s CD Projekt Red. In particular, it was Marcin Momot, CD Projekt Red’s community lead. Someone who literally has the job of keeping fans excited about the company’s brands. As such, his tweet about Geralt’s appearance in another game carries a hefty weight to it.
As for the idea that the game will be Soulcalibur VI, that comes from Let’s Play Video Games. The website claims that it received word from an anonymous source weeks ago with the information. But Let’s Play Video Games held onto the news until there was more substantial evidence available. This tweet, it seems, is that evidence.
On the other side of the story is Bandai Namco, publisher of the Soulcalibur series. The company has actually worked with CD Projekt Red to distribute Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. So the two entities already have a close working relationship. And Soulcalibur is known for casting a wide net when it comes to guest stars. Previous games have had Assassin’s Creed’s Ezio, Darth Vader, and even the comic book character Spawn. As far as Soulcalibur is concerned, Geralt is actually one of the more logical choices for a guest star.
Of course, there has been no confirmation from either CD Projekt Red or Bandai Namco at this time. Still, Let’s Play Video Games seems quite confident in the story. The most likely scenario is that they’re saving the news for an E3 announcement. It looks like Geralt’s battles aren’t over yet.
