There’s now a real-life Fortnite open for business in the UK.

But for how long?

Video games let you live out your fantasies in a safe environment. Physically, anyway. Emotionally, you’re opening yourself up to a world of pain and misery, but you’re probably not going to break your ankle running from knee-high cover to cover.

Almost inevitably, however, kids will want to live out those soldier power fantasies in real life. That’s why games like paintball exist. Laser tag is another real-world combat simulator, and it also has slightly less risk of injury from high-speed paint-filled projectiles.

There’s also a new outdoor laser tag arena in the UK that allows you to live out your Fortnite fantasies in a copyright infringing sorta way.

Located in Leicestershire, England, the outdoor laser tag facility is appropriately called “Battle Royale”. The name itself doesn’t quite lend itself to a lawsuit, but then you take a look at their website and notice all the Fortnite imagery and you’re probably thinkin’ that this is not a business long for this world.

Then you get to their Facebook page and things get even more on the nose.

As per their own advertising, there’s a total of “3 massive Fortnite themed areas” spread across 6 acres of fields in Leicestershire. Not only that, you can also play as a single, a duo, or as a squad. There’s nothing to say whether those squads are 4-man, 20-man, or just however many they have available at the time. One assumes matchmaking is a little more difficult in the real world.

And it’s not just Fortnite imagery in the advertising. There’s also Fortnite posters made from official backgrounds, there are cutout llamas littering the grounds, and imagery from the game all over the place.

This sort of thing is not OK whether or not the game’s developers were particularly litigious, but Epic Games has a history of going after people for copyright infringement. And why wouldn’t they? Fortnite is one of the biggest game in the world right now after being released on every system under the sun.

Maybe this “Battle Royale” is only planning on staying in operation for a single season. We can’t imagine them lasting too long with this kind of blatant thievery.
