This week, Final Fantasy XIV launched its official website for patch 5.3. The site contains screenshots from new activities and a list of what to expect from the long-awaited update.

Patch 5.3 was notably delayed for over two months due to COVID-19, but developers recently announced that the update was on schedule for an August 11th launch. In addition to a slew of new content, the update is meant to streamline the A Realm Reborn storyline and add flying to areas within the base game. Longtime players may be relieved to learn that flying will be unlocked without having to hunt aether currents.

The patch will also wrap up the Shadowbringers storyline. Incoming story patches will begin building up to the next expansion but players will have plenty of new content to work through in the meantime, as FFXIV is adding a new dungeon, trial, a continuation of the YoRHa alliance raid, and much, much, more in the 5.3 patches.

Screenshots of the new dungeon “The Heroes Gauntlet”, as well as its final boss and loot drops, can be viewed on the 5.3 special website. The dungeon appears to take players back to Il Mheg, the land of fairies. The developers are currently keeping the new trial under wraps to avoid spoilers, but the special site offers more information on new activities such as “The Sorrow of Werlyt”, which continues players’ reluctant alliance with Gaius as they work to undermine the Garlean Weapons project.

A full list of 5.3 content can be viewed at the bottom of the site, but most of these activities are not explained in detail. However, an update to the Ishgardian Restoration, new custom deliveries, and the addition of a new beast tribe, the Dwarves, are all expected to be rolled out within a month or so of the 5.3 patch. Players can expect more information to be added after 5.3 launches and as the release dates of further updates draw nearer.

In the meantime, players may want to participate in the FFXIV and Dragon Quest crossover event “Breaking Brick Mountains” before it ends on July 27th at 7:59 AM PDT. Players can pick up the quest from Havak Alvak in Ul’dah and complete two FATEs that occur one after another in specific locations.
