Another week, another round of happening events in Overwatch. This week includes a number of big topics including the beginning of the 2020 Anniversary event, new retail patch notes and the beginning of the Overwatch League May Melee tournament. Let’s take a look at what’s happening this week in Overwatch.

The 2020 anniversary event launched on Tuesday, May 19th and will run until June 9th. During this time, players have the opportunity to earn exclusive skins from heroes that have had anniversary ones along with a bunch of new skins for heroes including Reaper, Ashe, Mercy, Wrecking Ball and Zenyatta. A number of other exclusive cosmetics are also available.

Along with the anniversary update comes new retail patch notes. It isn’t the most significant patch in terms of groundbreaking nerfs or buffs as it addresses a number of bugs along with Competitive Deathmatch Season 3. One of the best additions is the improved communication wheel to allow players to say more useful commands. As far as hero changes, Bastion and Mercy received slight buffs and Ana received a slight nerf to her healing output.

In the esports side of the game, the Overwatch League’s May Melee tournament will take place starting on Friday, May 22nd. The tournament features two brackets (North America and Asia) where all teams in the league have a chance to duke it out in a single-elimination bracket to earn cash, extra wins and bragging rights. Hero pools are not enforced in the tournament which might provide for a large amount of diverse comps.
