Día de Muertos

Starting at 10am local time tomorrow, you’ll be able to celebrate the Mexican holiday of Día de Muertos in Pokemon Go. This event runs until 8pm Tuesday and features a handful of bonuses, some of which are only available to Trainers in Latin America.

On Día de Muertos, the people of Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America light candles, spread flower petals, and cook meals that were beloved by their ancestors. The day, also known as the Day of the Dead, celebrates loved ones who have passed on.

In keeping with tradition, the festivities in Pokemon Go will feature floral Pokemon and those connected to the theme of death.

In addition to the bonuses and spawns, there will be a Collection Challenge that runs for the duration of the event. If you complete it by the time the event ends, you’ll be rewarded with a Poffin, an Incense, and an encounter with a Shedinja.

Alongside the Día de Muertos event, there is a Go Battle Day ongoing. From Monday, November 1 at 12am to 11:59pm local time, you can play 20 GBL sets instead of five for a total of 100 battles. You’ll also earn quadruple Stardust for winning (not for end-of-set rewards). The leagues open right now are the Ultra League, Ultra League Premier Classic, and Halloween Cup.

Some Trainers have pointed out that the event lines up loosely with the dates of Diwali, which is a festival of lights, so it’s possible it’ll be themed around the real-world celebration.

There is quite a bit of news and other info that Trainers should take note of this week, especially with the start of a new month. Here’s a rundown.

Vullaby Research Breakthrough

For the month of November, Vullaby will be the encounter reward for a Research Breakthrough. This changeover will start at 4pm EDT on November 1, so if you want one more Yamask, you’ll need to open your Research Breakthrough before that time.

Shinx Community Day

The featured Pokemon for November’s Community Day has been announced. On November 21, Shinx will be the special Community Day Pokemon. Luxray evolved during the event window and up to two hours afterward will know the exclusive move Psychic Fangs.

This time around, there are multiple bonuses in effect, since this CD is the last one before the December roundup. During the event window, these bonuses will be in effect:

  • 1/4 Egg hatch distance
  • 3x transfer candy
  • 4x chance for Candy XL when transferring Pokemon
  • 3-hour Incense and Lures

Niantic ran a poll on Twitter to decide which special tournament is the “Player’s Choice,” for the Go Battle League. The winner has been announced and the Kanto Cup won. From November 8 to November 22, the Kanto Cup will be available alongside the Master League and Master League Premier Classic.

Here are the rules for the Kanto Cup:

  • Pokemon must be 1,500 CP or lower
  • Pokemon must have originated in the Kanto region, but regional variants are allowed
    • For example, Kantonian and Alolan Exeggutor are both permitted
  • For example, Kantonian and Alolan Exeggutor are both permitted
  • For example, Kantonian and Alolan Exeggutor are both permitted

Hoopa?

Niantic showed during their initial Season of Mischief announcement that Hoopa’s Special Research, Misunderstood Mischief, would roll out in stages over the season. Their graphic showed two new steps coming in November, so we should be seeing those soon.

Don’t forget that completing the Misunderstood Mischief questline before the season ends will unlock a new questline at the end of November.

Monday Bundles

Every Monday in November, there will be a bundle in the shop for 1 Poke Coin. Each week, the bundle will contain a Remote Raid Pass as well as some other items. The other items are typically basic supplies like berries, Poke/Great/Ultra Balls, varying levels of Potions, and the like.

Mega Houndoom CP Boost

Don’t forget that a different Mega Evolution will receive a CP boost throughout the Season of Mischief. In November, Mega Houndoom will have a CP boost for the duration of the month. Mega Houndoom is one of the best Dark-type attackers in the game, so it’s definitely worth using against Psychic- and Ghost-types.
