With such a flood of titles coming out, it can be hard to keep track of which are worth your time. Rather than let these gems slip under the radar, we have come up with a short list of four of the top indie games coming out this month that are worth checking out.
Eastern Exorcist
Eastern Exorcist is a 2D side-scrolling action-RPG where you play as an exorcist who combats demonic enemies in a fictional world inspired by Chinese paintings. The art style itself is a sight to behold, featuring smooth, hand-drawn animations and lovingly detailed backgrounds. The combat looks fast, stylish, and brutally satisfying.
Bite The Bullet
Switching gears just a little, Bite The Bullet is a new roguelite RPG side-scrolling shooter with a twist of metroidvania tossed in for good measure. The retro art style is put to good use with tons of fun and lively animations, all complemented with a hardcore soundtrack. The unique selling point of this game is how you consume your enemies to determine your character’s skills.
Griefhelm
If you thought the idea of Nidhogg 2 was great, but were turned off by the art style, then Griefhelm is here to fill that void. This tactical dueler has all the simplicity of a game like Nidhogg, but with far more depth and a higher level of polish. Complete with tournaments, online and local multiplayer, and bots – Griefhelm is the current peak of 2D dueling genre.
Nexomon: Extinction
Last up is an upcoming monster-catching RPG that aims to recapture the magic of the genre, like early Pokémon entries once did. Nexomon: Extinction features over 300 Nexomon to capture and take into battle, a compelling narrative full strange and offbeat characters, and a diverse world to explore. Battles with other trainers are determined by your Nexomon’s levels and elemental advantages/weaknesses in classic turn-based battles. While it may look overly familiar to the games that inspired it, Nexomon’s core gameplay will have you coming back long after your nostalgia has warn off.
