Following its formal release, a little over a month ago, Riot Games is still hard at work adding new and interesting features to VALORANT. In a recent interview, the game developers revealed that a deathmatch mode is being worked on right now and will be added later. Lead Game Modes Producer Jared Berbach stated that there is no official timeline for when this will launch in game, but it is certainly something fans would enjoy and were requesting during the beta testing period.

It has also been revealed that for the time being, the developers have no intention of adding draft phases to the game, be it for casual gameplay or for esports. Trevor Romleski, the Senior Game Designer, described the decision as rooted in a core desire to see players at the absolute best, showing off their skills with whatever agents they choose, and banning takes away from that and leaves players in a position where they need to go to their second pick.

This could change over time, of course, but it is not something the developers would likely revisit until the roster of agents has grown significantly. Since the plan right now is to release a new agent every two months or so, the pool of available choices will remain small for the next year.

Outside of this developer blog, it was also confirmed that the team is working on a feature in game that will allow players to properly see which players are ranked at the top spots in game. @RiotZiegler responded to the question over Twitter, and while there is again no firm timeline for when this might go live in game, it is definitely on their radar as something players would love to see.

Lastly, some of the best players in the world will be facing off in the VALORANT Vitality European Open taking place from July 10-12. French esports organization Team Vitality is working together with Corsair to bring the next part of the Ignition series to life, with a €15,000 prize pool on the line.

The group stage will consist of two group of four teams each and will feature a simple best-of-one format. From there, it goes to a classic double-elimination bracket in the playoffs with best-of-three matches. The grand finals will be a best-of-five. The following teams will be competing for the top spot:

  • Apexis
  • Bonk
  • breadHUNTERS
  • FABRIKEN
  • G2 Esports
  • need more DM
  • PartyParrots
  • Prodigy
