On Vanderpump Rules, Tom Schwartz was an endearing member of the team from the start, but this season, fans are not pleased with him. Tom was introduced on the show as server Katie Maloney’s boyfriend and the best friend of Tom Sandoval. He started with a minor role on the show, but over time, fans began to love his laid-back, goofy mannerisms. Eventually, he was featured as one of the main cast members.
Fans have witnessed his rocky relationship with Katie over the years, but much to most Vanderpump Rules viewers’ delight, he finally proposed to her in a lavish set-up at Villa Rosa, with Lisa Vanderpump’s help. The two married in 2019, with Tom Sandoval and Jax Taylor as Tom S.’s best men. Fans have loved seeing Tom S. evolve on the show, especially with the opening of Tom Tom restaurant and bar. However, this season, he’s missing the mark with viewers.
This season’s Vanderpump Rules shows the two Toms collaborating on the opening of a new bar, but viewers were disappointed when Tom Schwartz let Tom Sandoval steamroll him with his ideas. Sandoval insisted on naming the bar “Schwartz and Sandy’s,” even though multiple people told him that the name fell flat. Instead of telling Sandoval how he felt, Schwartz made Katie suggest that the name was “uninspiring,” and this made Sandoval lash out at Katie. When Katie and Sandoval argued about her involvement in the bar, Schwartz seemed to take Sandoval’s side, telling Katie to “be quiet.”
Tom has a history of not sticking up for Katie, as he’s thrown her under the bus multiple times. So far, he’s gotten away with it with his reputation relatively unscathed. However, this season, fans are outraged at how he openly disrespects her. In a recent Instagram post by Tom, featuring Katie with Stassi Schroeder and Lala Kent (with their respective babies), Tom added the caption, “Bub, where’s yours?” Katie had opened up on the show about having trouble conceiving, and viewers thought it was tasteless for Tom to joke about it.
When Katie spoke to Tom about how he should have her back because they’re married, viewers were outraged when he responded, “It’s just a piece of paper.” In the latest episode of Vanderpump Rules, Lala grilled Tom about the fact that he doesn’t stick up for Katie. Tom just sheepishly laughed and offered no explanation. In the past, Tom has gotten away with many misbehaving moments, like spilling a drink on Katie’s head or drunkenly making out with another girl. This time, it seems like fans are demanding that he shape up or ship out.
