Chie, our kung-fu enthusiast heroine from Persona 4 Golden, would need music to keep working out and we’ve curated a list that would keep her and perhaps you motivated.

To lead us on the right path, we contacted the person who knows Chie inside and out: her voice actor, Erin Fitzgerald. She said that the soundtrack to the 1980 kung-fu movie Hot, Cool, and Vicious would fit well with her character. Unfortunately, Spotify only has the Salt-N-Pepa album of the same name, so we picked out music from a few other kung-fu movies she’d still dig. Thanks, Erin for the recommendation!

Kung-Fu Movies

Chie, near the beginning of the Persona 4 Golden, shows a deep interest in kung fu movies when she’s mad at Yosuke for not giving back her copy of a beloved movie of hers. It breaks when Yosuke crashes his bike and she demands him to pay for a new one.

With that deep passion for kung-fu movies, we had to include “Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas as she “kicks as fast as lightning” and would enjoy the upbeat song. The Theme from Enter the Dragon by Lalo Schifrin would get her pumped to enter battle with her spunky fighting style and attitude. In Persona 4 Arena, she also likes to make sounds as she fights like in Enter the Dragon.

“Ying Xiong Men Zhan Sheng Le Da Du He” by Luo Zong Xian from the Kung Fu Hustle soundtrack has an exciting barrage of strings and percussion that would keep any budding martial artist hyped to jab and kick. “Fisherman’s Song of the East China Sea” by Ma Shenglong and Gu Guan Ren is a beautiful track that shows the emotional but exciting tone of the kung-fu movies she loves so much.

Rock

But kung-fu music wouldn’t be the only thing on her playlist. UltimaShadowX on Twitter suggested that Chie would be into girl-pop and Allen M. Hopson thought she’d be into rock songs based on her themes in Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Dancing.

To fit that rocking personality of hers, we picked “Naimononedari” by KANA-BOON, “The Metal” by the quirky Tenacious D, and “Grand Unification Part 1” by Fightstar. We can also see her laughing at Jack Black’s lyrics for “The Metal” and getting pumped up at the same time. “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction is the perfect girl-pop song for Chie as it would be nice for herself to feel peppy about her appearance, despite being a tomboy.

Her friendship with Yukiko

She grew very attached to Yukiko and was afraid for her life when she disappears in Persona 4 Golden. The two share a strong bond, and Chie admits that she was only strong because Yukiko supported her. “Best of You” by Foo Fighters and “Divinity” by Porter Robinson are songs that, while upbeat, tell a story of one relying on the other.

“Best Day of My Life” by American Authors and “Here’s To Never Growing Up” by Avril Lavigne are both fun songs that the two would listen to while hanging out, never wanting life to change or their friendship to drift apart.

Chie Loves Meat

One of her loves in life is beef, especially steak. We’ve included some meat-related songs in the playlist, like “Cheeseburger in Paradise” by Jimmy Buffett and “Meathook” by The Cure to help satiate her carnivore lifestyle.
