The curse of the canceled Werewolf: The Apocalypse video game adaptations is at an end, as Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood now has a trailer and a release date, both of which were revealed at PDXCON 2019.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is based on the Werewolf: The Apocalypse tabletop game. It’s a part of the World of Darkness game line, alongside titles such as Vampire: The Masquerade. The overall story of Werewolf: The Apocalypse involves different tribes of werewolves waging a secret war to stop the destruction of the Earth at the hands of evil corporations and other supernatural beings.
The first full trailer for Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood was shown during PDXCON 2019, and has revealed details about the story and the gameplay. The player takes on the role of an exiled werewolf named Cahal, who must return to his tribe in order to save them from the Endrom corporation. Endrom is part of the villainous Pentex corporation, and wherever Pentex can be found, the vampires won’t be far behind.
Cahal has the ability to transform into both a wolf form and a hybrid werewolf form in order to complete different missions. The three forms allow Cahal to perform different functions, as his human form is necessary for dealing with people and hiding his supernatural nature, his wolf form allows him to sneak through areas and hide from his foes, while the werewolf form offers incredible strength in battle… at a cost. One of the most important mechanics in the Werewolf: The Apocalypse tabletop game is Rage and how it can grant power, but leaves the user vulnerable after it ends.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood is aiming to be more of an action game than the other World of Darkness games that are currently in development, which fits in with the themes of the original tabletop game. The werewolves were at the top of the food chain in the World of Darkness when it came to a straight fight, and one of the most effective ways to use them in a video game is by pitting them against the foes that can offer them a challenge.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2020.
