Earlier this week, as the kickoff to Day 1 of IGN’s Summer of Gaming, the gaming world got its first glimpse at Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood, from indie developer Cyanide and publisher NACON.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood’s cinematic trailer was the first game shown off during the stream, showcasing a beautiful yet brutal world in which humans, machines, nature, and mutants all seem to be jockeying for position at the top of the food chain.
The trailer begins with a beautiful, if not slightly ominous piano playing against the black and white visuals of a deeply rooted and very unsettling-looking tree. The only color is that of red, which appears in the leaves that blow off of the tree along with the blood that seemingly appears to be soaking the ground in which the tree stands.
The leaves blow into an industrial complex, before weaving in between the firefight between the frozen scene of some soldiers and a giant mech (complete with spinning buzzsaw). The leaves continue to make their way through the facility before landing at the feet of another human – whose name is actually Cahal – who immediately gives off the vibes of some sort of mercenary.
Upon picking up one of the leaves, the scene flashes back to the tree which starts to ooze blood from its trunk. The held leaf then fades to dust in Cahal’s hand who then falls to his knees and begins transforming into something that’s not-quite-human.
From there, a pack of wolves is shown running through a forest that is being dismantled by humans, then running into the complex. As they run, they pass some sort of mutant creature fighting the soldiers, while bloody mutated vines start to encompass the walls of the complex. Eventually, the wolves reach the mercenary, who has turned into a full-fledged, massive werewolf.
Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood will put players in the role of Cahal who is searching for his daughter within the confines of Endron, a petroleum subsidiary of the megacorporation Pentex, which players of the original Werewolf: The Apocalypse role-playing game might be familiar with.
While the trailer looks incredible, not much else is known about the upcoming action-RPG game “adapted from the eponymous horror franchise.” However, more details will be revealed – along with the first gameplay trailer – during NACON Connect on July 7th
