What Pokémon Sword & Shields Third DLC Pack NEEDS To Include

With the addition of content through two DLC packs, Pokémon Sword and Shield have added many new, fun ideas to the Galar region, such as The Crown Tundra’s Star Tournament and Dynamax Adventures. However, there are mechanics that would improve the games if they made a reappearance in a potential third Pokémon Sword and Shield DLC pack.

One of the mechanics fans might enjoy seeing refreshed comes from the X and Y generation. Mega Evolution would fit perfectly into the stadium-style battle system of Sword and Shield, and it would only give more variety to fans who enjoy competitive battling. Mega Evolution was a unique idea that gave fan-favorite Pokémon a new look as well as a power boost in battle. Offering Pokémon both Dynamax transformations and Mega Evolution in the same game would expand the styles of battling gamers could engage in. It would also add a new item search for players, who would need to find each Pokémon’s Mega Stone.

Another concept that players might enjoy in a third DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield is the Safari Zone. With the updated graphics and the way that terrain and exploration work in Sword and Shield, adding a newly updated Safari Zone could be stunning. Bringing back the Safari Balls and bait in a habitat that could act as a third Wild Area, players could have a chance to catch some of the Pokémon that weren’t added to Galar’s expanded Pokédex in the last two DLCs. A Galar Safari Zone could also feature a more complex map than before, with some of the geological additions players have seen in The Isle of Amor and The Crown Tundra. Complex maps would make hunting and tempting rare Pokémon challenging and fun.

Pokémon Sword & Shield’s Third DLC Needs Old Gameplay Concepts

A mechanic that feels like it was made for the trendy Galar region is Pokémon Contests. Introduced in the original Ruby and Sapphire, Pokémon Contests allowed players to focus on something other than gritty battles. Using berries to make Pokéblocks that effected various aspects of a Pokémon’s personality, players could dress up their buddies and show them off to a crowd in exchange for ribbons. With the capabilities to make high-quality costumes and the plentiful berry supply of the Wild Area, players could again let their Pokémon strut the catwalk.

With each generation of Pokémon, new content is pushed to make the newest region stand out. By doing this, however, players often lose out on the potential return of favorite mechanics from previous games. In a third DLC pack for Pokémon Sword and Shield, players could again see some of their favorite concepts return with updated graphics and all the perks of the most recent Pokémon games. While new content and gameplay is needed for games like the Pokémon series, it doesn’t have to be at the expense of mechanics that were excellent in past titles, and a third DLC pack with refreshed older content could be the perfect solution.
