The 33rd fighter announced for the upcoming game The King of Fighters XV has been revealed to be a new character in the series named Dolores. She was officially revealed for the game’s roster during PlayStation’s October 2021 State of Play as part of a segment on KOF XV, accompanied by a trailer showcasing her fighting style and team affiliation. Since then, new information has been released regarding Dolores’ background and characteristics.
Dolores will be joining some new and old faces in the series as part of her team in KOF XV. Isla, another brand new character, as well as Heidern, a series veteran since The King of Fighters ’94, will join forces with Dolores to form the game’s Team Rival. As the group is comprised of two little-known fighters, the team’s dynamic and their reasons for allying are still yet to be fully revealed. Still, her position on Team Rival will likely put her at odds with KOF 15’s Team Hero during the game’s story.
As detailed on the official SNK website, Dolores is a medium who fights with a style referred to as Sacred Earth Arts. According to her character profile, Dolores hails from Mali, Africa, where she lives as a hermit. She possesses the power to psychically communicate with the spirits of the earth, allowing her to manipulate holy soil at will, which she utilizes to fight in the tournament. Like many KOF characters, Dolores has a very unique design, sporting numerous white tattoos under flowy clothing and ornate, golden jewelry. Dolores’ character page also hints that she has a connection with Verse, the final boss of The King of Fighters XIV. In that game, the malevolent entity Verse had the power to trap souls within itself, some of which belonged to deceased characters within the series. As it turns out, Dolores’ deceased soul was among those trapped.
New KOF 15 Character Dolores Was Resurrected Following Defeat of KOF 14 Antagonist Verse
Many fan-favorite characters are returning in KOF 15, but some of the most notable fighters on the game’s roster, like Dolores, are returning from the dead to take part. It has been confirmed that Dolores was resurrected following Verse’s defeat similar to fighters Yashiro, Shermie, and Chris. Dolores’ character description cryptically states that while her connection to Verse is still unrevealed, Dolores “may hold the key” to unveiling the secrets surrounding the entity. The details surrounding this connection will likely not be revealed until the details of KOF 15’s story come to light.
Players will have a chance to test Dolores and her gameplay for themselves prior to KOF 15’s official release. An open beta for KOF 15 is scheduled to be held from November 19 to November 20, allowing players to experience gameplay as eight of the game’s 39-character roster, including Dolores. Fans of The King of Fighters can use this beta as a chance to get a feel for this new character firsthand.
