Because of the timeline of the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy, some fans are speculating Albus Dumbledore could appear in a way he’s never been seen before.

Now that Hogwarts Legacy has been revealed during Sony’s PS5 Showcase, Harry Potter fans have their first glimpse at the upcoming Wizarding World video game. A lot of details aren’t known at this time; however, the game is set during the 1800s, putting it as one of the earliest settings fans have seen in author J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World. Because of the time period, most Harry Potter characters won’t be at Hogwarts (or even born yet). However, one popular character could be: Albus Dumbledore.
Hogwarts Legacy is set to release sometime in 2021 and is being developed by Avalanche Software. Hogwarts Legacy is published by Portkey Games, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive that focuses on creating video games set in the Wizarding World. Not a whole lot is known about the gameplay or story of Hogwarts Legacy right now, but the next-gen title looks like it should please most Harry Potter fans.
Hogwarts Legacy is set sometime during the 1800s, although an exact time period wasn’t given. Assuming there are no Time-Turners involved, that means one of the few characters from Harry Potter who could appear is Albus Dumbledore. The Hogwarts Headmaster is a fan-favorite character who’s adored and idolized by many. In the most recent Fantastic Beasts movie, Dumbledore is much younger than he’s appeared in previous movies. However, if he appears in Hogwarts Legacy, he’ll be even younger – a kid, in fact.
How Dumbledore Could Appear In Hogwarts Legacy
Harry Potter fans don’t know the exact year, or even decade, in which Hogwarts Legacy takes place. Dumbledore was born in 1881, which means he would be quite young in the video game. If Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the 1890s, he could even be a student at Hogwarts, since this would’ve been the decade in which he attended the school. Canonically, Dumbledore attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1892-1899, so all of this is possible.
Although Dumbledore may merely appear as a cameo character, he could figure heavily into the plot. He could be close friends to the player’s character, or even serve as a mentor or mentee, depending on his age at the time of Hogwarts Legacy. Players may even end up exploring Hogwarts Legacy’s world with Dumbledore by their side. Since Dumbledore is such an iconic figure in the Wizarding World, it seems odd to place a game in the 1800s and leave him out completely, and it could explain the “Legacy” part of the game’s title.
For now, it’s completely unknown if Albus Dumbledore will actually appear in Hogwarts Legacy. However, depending on the exact decade in which the game takes place, he could realistically show up at Hogwarts as a student. It seems highly plausible, although Harry Potter fans may have to wait a while for any official confirmation.
