Alpha ring members of Microsoft’s Xbox Insider program can now participate in a Dolby Vision test, designed to give Xbox Series X|S players “full-spectrum visuals.” Dolby Vision is claimed to “unlock the most realistic and lifelike visuals the game has to offer, with brightness, contrast, color, and depth that goes beyond even traditional HDR games.”

The Xbox Insider Program provides members with preview builds of Xbox content updates and features before they are rolled out to the general public. The Alpha ring is an invite-only part of the program where members get to preview content even earlier than the lower ring tiers, Beta, Delta, and Omega.

If you’re part of the Alpha ring and want to find out if your TV will enable you to game in Dolby Vision, then you’ll need to follow these steps: go to Profile & System, Settings, General, TV & Display options, 4K TV Details. According to Forbes, Dolby has said it is “working closely with TV manufacturers to make Dolby Vision for gaming as seamless and automatic for as many TVs as possible.” With any luck, your TV will be one of the many compatible with the fancy tech.

One of the best features of this new rollout will be Dolby Vision’s ability to automatically map compatible games to any display with it. Dolby has said, “This means… no more sliders to adjust your picture settings.”

The rollout of Dolby Vision to Alpha ring members is just the latest technological advancement from both Microsoft and Sony in recent weeks. Sony’s PlayStation Now service recently enabled the streaming of games in 1080p, up from 720p. This feature will – for now – only be available in the US, Japan, Canada, and Europe. Sony also recently revealed two new DualSense controller colors, Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. A new PS5 update has also improved the DualSense’s rumble on backward compatible titles, making the haptic feedback even more magical.
