Yu-Gi-Oh! has a ton of different, versatile spell cards. These in particular are just hilarious!

As we’ve mentioned before, there are some silly cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Based on a 1996 manga, the franchise would branch out into anime, video games, and the hit TCG overtime. While the anime maintains a mostly serious tone about the boy Yugi Muto playing the fictional Duel Monsters card game, the real-life representation of this game is a bit less serious.

Through silly art, odd names, and wacky abilities, some cards show the less serious side of Konami’s development team. Here are the ten spells which break from the sword and shield allure which has made this game one of the hottest products on shelves.

10 Cold Feet

If you haven’t checked out the link above which takes you to another article citing this card yet, shame on you. Make sure you scroll back up to check it out.

The art here is cold. Shocker. The name is definitely what makes this card funny. How many times have you heard the phrase “cold feet” used in reference for a binding agreement such as a wedding or other binding agreement? It’s pretty common, so we’re guessing tons.

This card is quick action and allows you to negate the use of your own spell or trap cards for the turn. As terrible as that sounds, there are some combos which allow you to apply the effects to other players, and it can avoid negative effects of your own cards against you. Despite the upside, we’re having cold feet about including it in our competitive decks.

9 Comic Hand

When you get cold feet, rely on your hands!

That was cheesy, but so are all of the Toon cards in Yu-Gi-Oh! This one makes the list because its art is just silly enough to grab a giggle from us. It’s basically a Micky Mouse hand stretching out for something, hinting at the actual effect of the card.

The card certainly has its uses. Outside of Toon decks, it won’t be so useful, but those of us who are children at heart (or the leaders of a multimillion-dollar company which creates trading card games and imprisons children), this card fits right into our strategy.

8 Toon Table of Contents

Since we’ve already revealed our love of Toons, lets look at another silly Toon card. While there are several tempting options, the Toon Table of Contents packs the most silly punch. It doesn’t have quite the reach of the Comic Hand, but it does have rainbows and stars to highlight the art, and that’s just fine with us.

What this card does is allow players to search their deck for any Toon card they would like and place it into their hand. The options are endless! This is clearly a staple in any deck that runs Toon cards, and the art just adds so much bling that we might lose our eyesight soon.

7 Bubble Rod

Speaking of bling, get a look at this thing. You’ll impress all the local players when you drop this bad boy onto your Elemental Hero Bubbleman. Oh, that’s right – it can only be equipped to that card. If that wasn’t your strategy, we’ll see you on the sidelines.

Seriously, this card looks ridiculous. The only person it could be an accessory to is a hero named Bubbleman. Nevertheless, it gives a whopping 800 attack to him (which still only brings him up to 1600) and gives your opponent an incentive to leave him alive since his death will net you a precious card from your deck. Nifty.

6 Fake Hero

Speaking of Elemental Heroes, who is your favorite? You’ll have to look around for ours, because that’s a different list. We’re talking about spells here, and we aren’t done with heroes. Enter the Fake Hero.

This kid lets you special summon an Elemental Hero from your hand which cannot attack, and it returns to your hand at the end of the turn. Think about it. You can use it to bring out Bubbleman, then give him the Bubble Rod and stare into the distance as Aquaman battles you for irrelevancy. The stage is set.

In all seriousness, this card has some serious combo potential, and is an excellent pickup for your collection. Just remember to call the real heroes if you’re in a pinch.

5 Final Countdown

First of all, if that song isn’t stuck in your head now, we don’t want to know you. Second, we totally intended to put this card here as we dipped over to the final five of this list. If that stood out to you prior, you win seven gold stars.

Final Countdown is a ridiculous card which incentivizes players to stall for absurd lengths of time in search of victory. By paying 2000 Life Points, you only have to stall for 19 more turns in order to win the game regardless of anything else. While we’re normally fans of crafty win conditions, we cannot condone the bore-fest which is sure to follow.

4 Des Croaking

Another musical number which will follow you for ages to come, Des Croaking features three frogs singing in harmony to the sky. We can only assume that if you play this in conjunction with Final Countdown, the sky implodes and we learn the secrets of the Shadow Realm.

Silly as this may seem, there is a whole combo built around Des Croaking, its pre-requisite Des Frog, and their lower stage T.A.D.P.O.L.E. Why so much effort went into such a silly combo is a mystery, but it’s seriously devastating in the right hands. If you’re looking for a cute and fun concept which has a whimsical twist, we give it two thumbs up.

3 Magical Pigeon

From croaking frogs to flying birds, Yu-Gi-Oh! really has it all. This is especially true regarding cards which have functionality with those iconic cards used in the anime.

Magical Pigeon interacts with your Dark Magician Girl by allowing you to return her to your hand, then special summon two pigeon tokens in the defense position. Use them fast though, because they will be gone at the end of your turn when you special summon that Dark Magician Girl back from your hand.

There is definitely synergy here and combo potential. But look at these things. There are at least seven birds flying from that hat. We can’t help but feel short-changed.

2 Delinquent Duo

YuGiOh 10 Funniest Spell Cards In The Game

This probably belongs with the heroes earlier, but we couldn’t think of a catchy way to introduce them. The Delinquent Duo exists to wreak havoc and instill fear into your opponents by costing you 100 Life Points and taking two of their precious cards from hand.

That isn’t terrible, and the card deserves some consideration. The art of these dynamic imps is, however, utterly ridiculous. For starters, they have bows on their tails. BOWS! Their foreheads are also numbered so that you don’t forget there are two of them. Add to that one who is raising horns and another with its tongue out and you have a delinquent duo indeed.

1 Hamburger Recipe

Writing lists like this can make you hungry. When you’re hungry, you want a good wholesome recipe. And when you’re looking for a good wholesome recipe, look no further than this ritual summon spell. Seriously, that guy wouldn’t steer you wrong would he?

As silly as the creature this leads to is, the idea that there would be a ritual to summon it is downright laughable. What is more disturbing is the idea that there is a whole deck built around this thing. We definitely dig the aesthetic, and think this gives a wonderful new meaning to playing with your food. Just watch for the bite.
