After calling out Joss Whedon and Warner Bros. for misconduct during the reshoots of Justice League, Ray Fisher lost the role of Cyborg. No one can be sure if he will ever return to play Cyborg. However, many fans and co-stars have allied with Ray Fisher in a movement called #IStandWithRayFisher.

The movement got even stronger when Zack Snyder’s Justice League was released on HBO Max. Fans were now able to see one of several reasons why Ray Fisher was so upset. The night and day difference between the two versions was clear as Cyborg was given a plethora of new scenes with several standout moments making fans hope for his return.

9 Father & Son Relationship

Coming straight out of Marv Wolfman’s comics, Zack Snyder’s Justice League plays up the tragic side of Cyborg. Losing most of his body, his mother, and his life leads to Cyborg hating himself and his own father. Even Marv Wolfman himself praised Ray Fisher for Cyborg’s portrayal.

Over the course of the film, the viewer sees Cyborg evolve from a dark character to the lovable hero most people think of. His tension-filled relationship with his father played by Joe Morton makes for some of the most emotional scenes of the film.

8 Meeting Diana

Most viewers know Cyborg from the Teen Titans animated series where he’s depicted as a nice guy with a big heart and a bigger stomach. The movie version comes closer to Cyborg’s darker origin and it shows throughout.

When he meets with Wonder Woman, the entire scene is vastly different. Cyborg is much more confrontational and understandably angry. When Diana says that the world needs him, he simply replies with, “F**k the world,” showing that he was not a fun-loving superhero, at least not yet.

7 A Chat With Barry

In a more calm scene, Cyborg and Ezra Miller’s The Flash are digging up Superman’s coffin. As they dig, the two have a cute conversation that is also much different than the 2017 film. The humor and chemistry on display show that the two could have been a perfect pairing in the upcoming Flash spin-off.

One of the funniest lines of Zack Snyder’s Justice League comes when Barry asks if Diana would date a younger guy like him. Cyborg replies, “She’s five thousand years old, Barry. Every guy is a younger guy.”

6 Technomorphing

Whether it’s Cyborg taking control of the Knightcrawler, accessing the Kryptonian ship, or simply showing the League what happened to the Mother Box of Men; Cyborg’s technomorphic abilities are showcased splendidly through much-improved CGI over the 2017 version.

Cyborg’s technomorphing also allowed him to create weapons such as extra limbs, a protective face shield, and the iconic arm cannons. All of which were used well to show off the character’s capabilities as a superhero.

5 Message From Silas

Twice in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Cyborg listens to a tape left behind by his father Silas. The first time, Silas tells Victor of his new capabilities which he gladly practices and masters. However, when Silas mentions that he wants to speak from his heart, Victor destroys the recorder.

After Steppenwolf is defeated, Cyborg repairs the recorder using his Mother Box tech. He listens to the last part of the message and it is a really nice ending to Cyborg’s story. Silas’s words resonate, providing a bright note for the movie to end on as well. This ending also sets up Cyborg going off to be the hero that would have gotten his own spin-off and a role in The Flash.

4 Last Day As Victor

Nearly all of Cyborg’s scenes were reshot, altered, or deleted for the 2017 version; all of which should have never been removed. The most egregious deletion was when Zack Snyder shows Victor Stone’s origin story. It showed how he started as a football superstar with a great future ahead of him.

He wasn’t just a jock though, it showed that he was as much of a genius as his parents. Then Snyder actually shows his last moments with his kind and caring mother before the car accident happened. From a character development standpoint, removing this entire story was one of the worst decisions.

3 “I’m Not Broken…”

Thanks to Barry Allen reversing time, he was able to charge Victor to get him inside the Mother Boxes. Inside, the sentient artificial intelligence of the Mother Boxes attempt to seduce Victor; saying that they can fix him.

This is when Victor says easily his best line in the entire movie, “I’m not broken…and I’m not alone.” It helped complete his character arc as he now accepted himself and he accepts the Justice League as his new family.

2 Losing His Father

Ray Fisher’s range of emotions is astonishing throughout the whole film. However, Fisher can make the coldest of people choke up with his last scene with Joe Morton. Silas sacrifices himself to mark the Mother Box and ends up disintegrating in the process.

Cyborg’s screaming and attempting to stop his father is emotional enough but it gets sadder. Cyborg stands up and slowly, painstakingly limps over to the chamber barely able to speak, with tears visibly falling off of him. Ray Fisher portrays the loss and pain so well, which makes it baffling that Joss Whedon removed the scene. Ray Fisher could easily lead his own movie or series on HBO Max.

1 First Good Deed

Not many realize just how powerful of a being Cyborg is. Zack Snyder shows that off perfectly when he begins to master them: he can access literally anything from records, missile launch codes, to government secrets. With that kind of power, Cyborg could easily take over the world but he doesn’t.

With access to all that technology, he instead finds a random single mother struggling to survive. He uses his gifts to hack into an ATM and give her thousands of dollars to set her up for life, making it seem like a lottery. It’s impossible not to grin at the woman’s happiness as shown when even the sour Cyborg smiles before walking off. A true hero at heart from the beginning.
