Once you have some extra income on Animal Crossing, you can use some of those bells to get a gift for your villager. These gifts encourage the villagers to stay on your island and make them feel appreciated. If the value of your friendship with the villager drops down to zero, they will start asking you if they should leave the island. They just want to be loved! However, you have to give them gifts that each individual villager would like… how in the world do you figure that out?
Here’s how the point system works:
Insects and Flowers along with Tools, Music, Clothing (in the villagers preferred style) and Umbrellas for non-frog villagers gains 2 points. Furniture is 3 points, Wrapped Gifts are 1 point and Umbrellas to frog-villagers, Clothing that is not preferred and anything else is 1 point. DO NOT give your villagers any kind of Garbage, because this will result in negative 2 points.
It is important to note that whatever your gift may be, you can wrap that gift for an additional point! Although you do not want to wrap too many gifts at a time, because you may end up giving the gifts to the wrong villagers. So keep that in mind! If you were giving your real-life friend a gift, you’d at least put it in a cute bag, right? It is the little things, and the thought, that counts.
It is truly up to you what you give to your villagers. Many players prefer to give clothing because of the higher point count, and clothing does not change the villager’s homes. Furniture, on the other hand, does affect the initial design of the villager’s house. This is important to keep in mind because furniture is the highest point earner and players may be drawn to that. If you do not care about the interior design of the villager’s home, then go for that 3 point furniture gift!
DO NOT FORGET: You can only give one gift per day. You also have to be “good friends” with a villager before you can even think about giving them a gift. On the days where you have already given a gift, make sure you are talking to all your villagers you want to keep. Building these friendships with your villagers will be key to keeping them on your island.
Clothing is the big-ticket item most players give as gifts. Each villager has a specific set of clothing that they like – ranging from color to certain styles. Here is a quick breakdown of the different clothing categories:
- Elegant – Fancy clothes; dresses, suits, hats, etc.
- Cool – Think rockstar. Leather, hip glasses, things of that nature.
- Gorgeous – Fancy clothes, but with a twist. Fun hats or jackets work great!
- Colorful – Anything with a pop of color will do!
- Active – Ready for a workout? Activewear is for these villagers.
- Cute – Frilly, pink, anything soft.
- Simple – Nothing too flashy, probably something plain.
