It’s been almost a year since Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released in November 2019 for PS4, Windows, and Xbox One. The game, developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts, introduces players to a new character in Star Wars canon, Cal Kestis, a former padawan who is now on the run in the galaxy.
To this day, players are still discovering hidden references and Easter Eggs in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Though some of the cameos are obvious, albeit surprising, others are easier to miss, incentivizing players to continue playing the game over and over again to get the full experience.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has countless nods to the books, movies, and comics that make up Star Wars canon. From the different Star Wars character cameos to little details paying tributes to older installments in the universe, the plethora of Easter eggs and callbacks are one of the best parts of Jedi: Fallen Order.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Second Sister
The Second Sister, also known as Trilla Suduri, originally appeared in the 19th issue of Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith, which released a full year before Jedi: Fallen Order. The Second Sister is central to Fallen Order’s plot, as she tasked with retrieving the Holocron from Cal for the Dark Side. After she fails and Cal Kestis decides to spare her life after an epic fight, Darth Vader kills her in epic twist-of events, leading up to the final boss encounter of the game.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Ninth Sister
The Ninth Sister, a former Jedi known as Masana Tide, is similarly first introduced into Star Wars canon in Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith comic. In Fallen Order, the Ninth Sister goes along with the Second Sister in her quest to steal the Holocron from Cal Kestis, though she’s eventually defeated during a combat scene on Kashyyk.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Nightsisters
The Nightsisters – and the destruction of their coven – are heavily referenced throughout Jedi: Fallen Order. The clan was originally introduced into canon during the 1994 book The Courtship of Princess Leia, and then they made their T.V. debut during the animated TV show The Clone Wars. Merrin, an original character introduced in Fallen Order, is revealed to be the last remaining Nightsister, or so it is believed. Her coven leader was Talzin, the mother of Darth Maul.
Talzin’s role in Jedi: Fallen Order cannot be overlooked. The character first appears in the third season of The Clone Wars animated series. Merrin references her in Fallen Order when she discussed the destruction of her coven, the Nightsisters. Talzin was the coven mother and she was killed alongside the other Nightsisters during the Battle of Dathomir.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Nightbrothers
The Nightbrothers were the subservient counterparts to the Nightsisters, who now have most of Dathomir to themselves following the destruction of the Nightsisters coven in the Battle of Dathomir.
Brother Viscus, the head of the Nightbrothers during the Clone Wars, is mentioned when Cal arrives on Dathomir, and the player spends a good deal of time battling his way through Nightbrothers during the course of the game.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s General Grievous Reference
When Merrin recounts the story of how the Nightsisters were destroyed in the Battle of Dathomir, she says an “armored warrior” attacked her clan with a lightsaber, which is a pretty obvious reference to General Grievous’ attack on Dathomir.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Obi-Wan Audio
Although Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn’t make a physical appearance in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, his voice makes a cameo when Cere plays a recording of the Jedi master for Cal following the initiation of Order 66. In the recording, Obi-Wan gives a stern warning to avoid Coruscant, explaining how Clone Troopers were setting up a trap.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Tarrful Cameo
Tarrful is originally introduced to fans in Revenge of the Sith, as he’s one of the co-leaders of the Wookie Army alongside Chewbacca. Tarrful makes an appearance in Jedi: Fallen Order. Cal finds him acting as a resistance leader after his home planet Kashyyk was conquered in order to mine resources.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Yoda Reference
When Cal is travelling to Illum in order to search for kyber crystals, he mentions he had already visited the planet with Master Yoda, though they aren’t aware of his location in the game. However, the Jedi master is likely hiding in Dagobah during the game’s events.
Jedi: Fallen Order Shows A Younger Saw Gerrera
Resistance fighter Saw Gerrera makes a brief appearance in Jedi: Fallen Order when players are introduced to a younger (and less defeated or paranoid) version of the character. Gerrera has appeared in multiple different types of Star Wars media and was portrayed by Forest Whitaker in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Darth Vader Ending
Darth Vader was perhaps one of the most satisfying and surprising cameos of the entire game. He appears at the very end after Cal pardons the Second Sister’s life. Seeing that she was unable to retrieve the Holocron (and was perhaps swaying from the Dark Side) he executes her. The final scene is an epic boss encounter between Cal and Vader, who eventually manages to escape with the help of Merrin.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Death Star Reference
Even though the Death Star wasn’t finish during the events of Jedi: Fallen Order, it’s referenced when Cal Kestis realizes the Imperial base on Illum is extracting kyber crystals, the necessary ingredient in creating light sabers.
It was previously revealed in Rogue One the Death Star was using the crystals to power it, though Cal failed to realize it in the game.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Revenge Of The Sith Music
When Jedi: Fallen Order is explaining how Cal survived Order 66, the emotional music which can be heard in the background is actually the score played during Revenge of the Sith when Anakin kills the young Jedis-in-training, making for both a fitting (yet disturbing) nod to events which are currently taking place elsewhere in the Star Wars universe at this same time.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Breathing Tube
The device Cal uses to swim underwater seems to be a direct reference to the devices which Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn used to travel to Gungan City in Star Wars Episode One – The Phantom Menace.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Many, Many Droids
There are all kinds of classic Star Wars droids scattered throughout the game, which players can get a glimpse of if they pay attention. Keep an eye out for robots such as seeker droids, interrogation droids, GNK droids, and even an FX-7 medical droid, Den of Geek reports.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Illum
Illum is the famous Jedi planet that houses thousands of kyber crystals needed in the construction of lightsabers. When Cal’s lightsaber breaks in Jedi: Fallen Order, he heads to the planet to find the necessary materials to make a new one. The process to create or rebuild a lightsaber, through both engineering skills and mastery over the Force itself, is something which has been explored in numerous forms of Star Wars media including Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.
Jedi: Fallen Order’s High Ground
Jedi: Fallen Order includes a nod to one of the most iconic scenes from Revenge of the Sith when Obi-Wan cautions Anakin not to attack him before ultimately cutting off his legs. When Cal is outside of Kashyyk’s Imperial Base, players can head a stormtrooper in the background say, “At least we have high ground.”
Jedi: Fallen Order’s Yoda Callback
In one of Cal’s flashbacks, players hear his master tell him “let go of what you fear to lose,” which is almost word-for-word what Yoda said to Anakin when he was worried about foreseeing Padme’s death.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order incorporated countless cameos and references, giving players incentive to go through the game multiple times so they can spot them all.
