Pokemon Sword and Shield Celebrates Year of the Ox in Special Max Raid

Nintendo’s Pokemon Sword and Shield looks like it wants to keep up with the times by celebrating alongside global current events. According to the Chinese Zodiac calendar, 2021 is the Year of the Ox, and Pokemon Sword and Shield is timing one of their newest Max Raid events perfectly. This time, the event will feature the cow and ox-type Pokemon that players can encounter in the game.

One of Pokemon Sword and Shield’s latest Max Raid event put its focus on Normal and Dragon Pokemon. Aside from having these types appear more often in the Wild Area dens, lucky players could have the chance to encounter the Gigantamax forms of Snorlax and Duraludon. Right now, the Normal/Dragon-type event is still live and will continue to be live until the end of January 2021. However, the Year of the Ox Max Raid event looks like it will only be available for a short time, so players will have to get online fast for a chance to encounter the ox-type Pokemon.

In a very recent update on the official site, Pokemon Sword and Shield fans will be able to encounter Tauros, Miltank, and Bouffalant more often as they go into the game’s Wild Area dens. The event will be live for a very brief time, from January 22 until January 24, 2021, 3:59 p.m. PST. Tauros, Miltank, and Bouffalant are all Normal-type Pokemon that are inspired by the real world’s and cow animals, making them the perfect Pokemon to feature for the celebratory event.

At first the roster does not seem to be interesting for most players, as neither of the three featured Pokemon have special Gigantamax forms. However, players should note that the Pokemon team mentioned that lucky Trainers can encounter a shiny Tauros in their Max Raid battles. This is great incentive for players who are huge fans of Shiny hunting to get on the game and start scouring the Wild Area dens.

Players should be reminded that they will only be able to take part in the event by downloading the game’s Wild Area News. This can be done by connecting their Nintendo Switch consoles online through Y-Comm or by selecting Pokemon Sword and Shield Mystery Gift in the X menu. After this is done, they should expect to see more Tauros, Miltank, and Bouffalant in their Pokemon dens. Players should also note that this event will not affect the Dynamax Adventures found in the Crown Tundra.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is currently exclusively available for the Nintendo Switch.
