According to Charles Caleb Colton, “Imitation is the sincerest [form] of flattery”. However, these cases of desperate copying below is a far cry to the positive compliments that Pokémon deserves.
Pokémon imparts a very interesting message of embracing the adventures of life and challenging the unknown to become the very best version of ourselves. It has become an international phenomenon that created a peculiar world that featured different beings that has captivated both children and adults.
The hit TV series banked on its excellent storyline of an ordinary boy named Ash who embarks on a journey to become the greatest Pokémon trainer and its fascinating creatures that can draw virtually everyone with their distinctive charm and attributes. Aside from its interesting main characters, its ever-growing roster of cute pocket monsters grew from one hundred fifty and reached different generations – a testament of the steady and massive growth of the sensation.
The attractiveness of its characters had drawn a great deal of followers all over the world that it became a franchise. And because of its roaring success, the story grew and offered so much more – it has games, toys, trading cards, etc. Nevertheless, such desirability was exploited by people who want to unlawfully gain from the popularity of this global marvel. Those unscrupulous individuals imitated the products that the makers envisioned and fashioned. But, some of these counterfeits were created so terribly that it can actually be hilarious.
20 The Poké Wars
Bulbasaurs are one of the superior grass types of Pokémon, if not the best one among them. They have blue-green skin color with darker sections, matching its red eyes. It has pointed ears at the uppermost part of his head. At its back, it has a green seed that gives it energy through photosynthesis.
This Poké Wars toys is an imitation and a fusion failure to the extreme.
Meet Bulba Fett. Even in our wildest imagination, we could never come up with a Star Wars and Pokémon mixture. What can you say about this Bulbasaur’s head in Bobba Fett’s body and armor? This thing should never be taken seriously – if this is not a joke, then it will make us wonder what is.
19 Misty’s Eyes Can See Into Your Soul
Misty is one of the most beautiful characters of this global success. With her pretty face, red-orange hair, denim shorts, yellow shirt, trademark red suspenders, and her captivating aura – this Gym Leader from Cerulean City has earned a great deal of followers. As a testament to that, the Gym Leader has been an ever-present subject in most cosplays all around the world.
She was Ash’s first journey companion in the very first episode, and from that moment she has captivated countless supporters.
Ash’s first travel mate has a pair of long perfectly-drawn legs; while this plainly scary figure has short ones. This one is so terrifying that it can actually qualify as a possessed doll in a horror movie. It was a complete contrast to Misty’s captivating and alluring impact.
18 Rubber Ducky, You’re The One
Aside from Ash, Pikachu has been the main symbol of the entire Pokémon franchise. In the video games, series, and trading cards – this delightful little creation has been omnipresent through all if it. With the adoration of fans, it has been the subject of vast imitations in all forms.
This rubber ducky Pikachu is a prime example of that misguided affection.
Yes, Pikachu is one of the cutest highlights of all Pokémon, but fusing him with a duck is just way too much. It looks like a combination of a chick, a mouse, and a duck all rolled into one floating rubber toy. While in a bath tub, this electric buddy of Ash might just electrocute us in more ways than one – its odd appearance is already a Thunder Strike for being disturbing.
17 Ray-No-Thanks-Za
Rayquaza is one of the legendary Pokémon. And because of the amazing capacities of this beast, it was made the face of Pokémon Emerald. The majestic dragon has a very impressive feat, it spends all its time flying across the ozone layer and along the clouds. In fact, it resembles a flying meteor zooming by from the ground view, because of its movement from above.
The Sky High Pokémon has one of the strongest abilities in the Pokémon World: the Air Lock, which negates all weather effects. Conversely, as grand as Rayquaza’s physical descriptions and skills may be, this replica is nothing close to the magnificence of the real thing.
The smiling green toy looks more like a smiling Caterpie or Ekans or to put it bluntly: a joke.

16 Gol-Nope
Goldeen is one of Misty’s original Pokémon and favorites. Its colors and abilities all blend up to produce a beautiful water fighting machine – much like its actual counterpart goldfish. The Cerulean City Gym leader takes pride in one of her aces, not only for battles, but also their graceful movements underwater for shows.
This bogus Goldeen, though, is clearly a different animal compared to the ones bearing the authentic tags.
It bears a resemblance to a crossbreed of a goldfish, a pig, and a unicorn. Likewise, its drowsy looking eyes do not make sense. It has a deformed body as well that does not give justice to the agile swimming Pokémon. For sure, Misty will not be swimming with this pig-looking fish, or even trusting this sleepy-looking thing in a clash against trainers.
15 Arbok Pokémans?
Here is one of Team Rocket’s classic trusted assets: Arbok. The snake-type Pokémon has appeared at the beginning of Ash’s saga in the very first episode as Ekans. It has been both a constant witness and a poor casualty to Jessie and James’ failure to kidnap the famed Pikachu. Together with his long-time tag team partner Weezing, Arbok provided a mildly villainous atmosphere in the TV series.
Despite Arbok’s loyalty to Jessie, it decided to leave her and the squad forever to protect its fellow Ekans against poachers.
What happened to Arbok after it left Team Rocket was a mystery, however. This mock-up object casts the same kind of shadow. Hopefully someone will be able to explain the relationship of a Ronald McDonald with the cobra Pokémon… along with the word Pokeman and the yellow M logo.
Also, when did Ronald McDonald get involved?
14 Octo-Pikachu
Captain Davvy Jones of the Flying Dutchman was one of the main characters in the Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End instalments of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The captain has spread fear and terror not only in the high seas but also with the captivated audiences of the box office hits. The famed octopus-faced pirate has, unfortunately, no connection with Pokémon.
Yet, this Pikachu seems to be inspired by the famed captain of the Flying Dutchman.
The weird transformation in this shoddy imitation turned the lovable Pikachu into an angry bearded Cthulhu entity. The sharp eyes and the bulkier-than-usual frame made it more like a tubby hamster than like Ash’s loyal partner.
13 Mickey Mouse As A Trainer
All right, so we’re not sure what the goal was here. It’s pretty clear that this was an improvised, knock-off version of the original Pokémon merchandise. We can totally see this emblazoned on a cheap towel, hanging out in some dark corner of a shady store.
So, so very much is wrong with this illustration. We don’t even know where to start.
That’s clearly a Mickey Mouse face cut-out, overlayed on top of Ash’s head; we’re pretty sure Misty might be a cat with those whiskers. The blue seal creature looks like it’s the famous Garfield cat, Pikachu is Tweety Bird…… and Brock has no face.
Also, Pekoman.
Get out.
12 Take A Chansey On Fake Pokémon
The Chansey first appeared in the episode Pokémon Emergency! and they are usually seen in Pokémon Hospitals. It is a normal-type Pokémon than can only be found in urban places; rarely will they be seen in the wild.
There are only female types of this Pokémon. The remarkable highlight of Chanseys is that they have an egg in their belly. They share it with those with injuries, because it provides nourishment to those who consume it.
Chanseys bring good health and happiness to the world of Pokémon. Aside from that, they are extremely cute. The keychain copy shown above is a seriously bad depiction of a Pokémon that has been considered a pillar of the story.
Come on.
11 Please Put That Away
Jessie of Team Rocket had a surprisingly strong Lickitung. It managed to defeat Ash’s Pikachu and Bulbasaur as well as Brock’s Vulpix in a clash. What is more shocking is that the long-tongued being was defeated by Misty’s Psyduck. In the episode Tricks of the Trade, the lovely member of Team Rocket accidentally traded her precious pet for a virtually useless Wobbuffet, for good.
Lickitung is a pink, bipedal creature and has a very long tongue – extending up to 6 feet, 6 inches long.
It has a distinctive charm with its round head and body. Both are just terrible bootlegged playthings: one is a plastic, gumball replica and the second is a nightmarish, wide-eyed, stuffed chiffon pink sock.
At least it comes out of a real-ish Pokéball?
10 Pokémon Beyblade?
Yes, the Pokémon fever has invaded a lot of barriers, insofar as their merchandises are concerned. From video games, trading cards, blocks and stuffed toys to bean bags, cook books, mugs… you name it and perhaps they’ve got it. Believe it or not, they even have the Pokémon Challenge, which is similar to another franchise: Beyblade.
The Challenge has a mini stage where the tops will be placed, spun, and released. The game looks interesting because you can change the top’s profile with Pokémon disks to have a different feel to it.
The Pokémon logo was not included because it actually states “Pet’s Little Intelligent Spirit”. A lame counter part of the real thing. Also, if you check out the real deal, you will see the huge disparity between the two.
9 It Won’t Stop Looking At Me
Squirtle was actually the first choice of Ash, as his starter Pokémon – this was shown in the show’s very first episode: Pokémon – I Choose You! But Ash then found out that the option was already taken by his archrival Gary Oak. Eventually he got his own young turtle, none other than the leader of the Squirtle Squad; a band of rebel Squirtles that were left alone by trainers. In the episode The Fire-Ring Squad, Ash’s own returned to his former team for good.
This stuffed toy was designed to resemble Ash’s former water Pokémon but as you can see, it even hardly resembles a turtle – it looks more like an odd green being in a tiny, yellow, fitted dress.
Perhaps good as a toy doll, but not as the powerful water-type starting Pokémon.
8 Neckless Lapras
Lapras is one of the most skilled Pokémon – it can harness both water and ice elements together with telepathy, as shown in the anime. It is also a very gentle being in the story, allowing people to ride their backs across the seas for transportation.
The sea creature is enormous as it looks like the legendary long-necked dinosaur known as a Plesiosaur.
Ash had his own Lapras, as showcased in The Lost Lapras episode, where he rode across the Orange Archipelago. Our hero bid goodbye to his Lapras in Viva Las Lapras, where it returned to its family.
This plush toy shows a big-eared blue turtle rather than a majestic Plesiosaur-looking Lapras. Although some features make a drop of likeness like its colors, eyes, and ears – it is just a hilarious reproduction of the gentle giant.
7 You Can’t Put Lipstick On A Lizard
Charizard soars in the sky in search of strong opponents and the more experience it gets, the hotter its flames become. The fire that they possess can melt huge glaciers and giant boulder rocks.
Charizards are ferocious fire-breathing dragons in the Pokémon world. They cast a shadow of fear and reverence among its fellow Pokémon and humans because of its magnificence and prowess.
These dragons also bear such intense dominant qualities that Ash needed quite some time before he was able to command his own.
This false action figure shows a different kind of Charizard. It seems like a dragon with an unsuccessfully placed lip makeover. Aside from the oddly colored mouth is the mediocre taste of color combinations that were applied to this supposedly marvelous creature.
6 Skip The Mudkip
Mudkip is one of the starter Pokémon of Hoenn – coming along with Treecko and Torchic. In A Mudkip Mission, Brock caught one which later evolved into a Marshtomp. They are amphibious, four-legged, and big-headed. As small as it may be, it can crush boulders and rocks that are bigger than its body size. The fins in his head and his back part greatly helps him in his water movements as its propellers.
These fake blue figurines were meant to be Mudkips, but they were clearly awfully made.
Their expressions and body gestures give us the impression that they are extremely scared. Furthermore, it seems that their right arms were bigger than the left? Unless they’re tail fins… but whatever that may be, it does not make sense.

5 Why? Why Ever?
Pikachu is, arguably, the most endearing Pokémon ever; and it has been a target of unauthorized replication, like this one. It looks like a new-born chick or bird – a mind-boggler that will make us wonder on what the makers of this stuffed toy were thinking when they created this.
Its arms somewhat resemble tiny wings that will not definitely make it fly. Its feet also look like the ones that birds or chickens possess.
Whoever created this funny copycat of the electric-type Pokémon clearly intended it to remain a mystery. And as ridiculous as this fabrication may be, it can still fool innocent purchasers who are not keen enough to notice the difference against the patented goods.
Perhaps this one is called Chikachu or Birdachu?
4 Teenage Mutant Pokémon Squirtles?
We have Squirtle again, and this one is a little bit more bizarre than the other as it infused a legendary group of turtles, The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – which has no connection with Pokémon in whatever way. It will be difficult to know if these figurines are designed seriously by its producers but if they are, it was definitely outrageous.
If you look closely at the figures, you will notice that the turtles do not only have different poses, they also have dissimilar facial expressions.
It would be interesting to know if they have packaged them as Teenage Mutant Ninja Squirtles or anything similar to that.
3 We Have Given Up On English
Oh boy.
It’s not easy to imagine Pokemon without Team Rocket. Even if they sometimes cause harm to Ash and his gang in their endless efforts to steal Pikachu, they at times do something good. Their exceptional incompetence creates a comical side to the story. Perhaps a lot of the fans are wondering why the Team Rocket Organization have not fired them, since the trio has never delivered anything positive. Still, they are a seemingly inseparable part of the TV hit – with their constant antics that never cease to amuse.
Have you ever come across the word “predigy”? We haven’t.
If you run a Google search, there is no English word that comes out as a result on the search. Plus, the name Pat; Team Rocket is composed of Jessie and James, that person does not have a connection with Meowth’s gang.
2 Spongechu? PikaBob? Help?
Being greeted by “Have a nice day” can have a positive effect to most, even from a tiny pin. It is such a wonderful phrase to read as part of a conversation, but this pin is something highly unusual, and we’re shocked it was even allowed into production.
Who would have thought to create a fusion of Pikachu and SpongeBob?
Let’s face it. Both of them are yellow, charismatic, and have astounding number of fans – but this does not justify the creepy combination of the two household names. It was literally SpongeBob’s face in Pikachu’s mouse-like body. Even those who are not fans of the two will find it creepy.
1 Backwards Pikachu
Whether originals or counterfeits, toy manufacturers should be well-aware of their products forms before they get released to the market. This Pikachu might be the strangest find that we have so far. It is not because its undesirable appearance, in fact, it was made beautifully – it is because of the blatant faults that this toy has.
This could have been a good-looking piece, but because of the mistakes in the details – this tiny thing turned out to be colossal laughingstock. Look at the details, the color, the features, the proportions! Everything was perfect, except for the two body parts of this cherished Pokémon.
Jeez.
