25 Every Major Saga In DBZ
While Nappa was eliminated quite early in Dragon Ball Z, he actually did reappear at least once during every major saga in the popular series. Notably, Nappa debuted in the 204th chapter of the Dragon Ball manga, which went seamlessly from the original series to Dragon Ball Z without numerical interruption. His animated debut was in the DBZ episode called Gohan’s Rage, the fifth episode of the series. In Japan, the character of Nappa is voiced by a committee of actors. The original Japanese voice acting is provided by Shozo Iizuka, who is known for his roles as Doctor Neo Cortex in the Crash Bandicoot series and the Japanese dub voice of B.A. Baracus in The A-Team. He also voiced Android 8 in the original Dragon Ball animated series. In his resurrected appearance in Dragon Ball GT, Nappa was voiced by Kiyoyuki Yanada, who starred in other prominent series like Magic Knight Rayearth, Digimon, and Slam Dunk. In the re-released Dragon Ball Kai, Nappa was given the vocal talents of Tetsu Inada, who voiced other Dragon Ball universe characters like Lord Slug, South Supreme Kai, and Shisami. The lone extermination by Nappa against the Z Fighters came in the form of Piccolo, who sacrificed himself by blocking the Bomber DX directed at a nearly-defeated Gohan. The other two eliminations were actually the form of self-destruction attacks by Chiaotzu and Tien. Chiaotzu clung to Nappa’s body and self-destructed to no avail. His friend Tien utilized all of his life-force in a Tri-Beam attack that was also unable to defeat Nappa.

While he was a notable character in Dragon Ball Z, Nappa did look oddly-similar to another DBZ villain named Rock. Of course, characters looking alike is pretty common in Akira Toriyama-designed fiction. Just look at his main characters in the Dragon Quest series? Look familiar?
If you do not remember Rock, you are probably not alone. He was briefly featured in a filler episode in the Great Saiyaman Saga, which is pretty much a filler saga itself. Rock is the leader of the Red Shark Gang and kidnapped the Satan City mayor to draw the attention of Hercule. He is also featured in Toriyama’s side story called Dub & Peter 1, where he plays the role of a criminal and kidnapper, once again.
13 Super Saiyan Goatee
Though he might not have any hair on the top of his head, that doesn’t mean that Nappa cannot go all Super Saiyan. Featured in the non-canonical spin-off, Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Nappa attains the Super Saiyan 3 transformation.

Because he doesn’t have the customary hair on the top of his noggin, Nappa’s Super Saiyan blonde/gold glow is shown with what hair he does have. Thus, his eyebrows disappear (as with the Super Saiyan 3 form) and his facial hair gets a much needed massive spiky boost. Indeed, this might be one of the more comical appearances of any Super Saiyan form. At least, they didn’t use that fan-art version of Nappa’s Super Saiyan 3 form that has one gigantic golden beard like Super Saiyan Santa Claus.
12 Skipping For Greatness
Similar to Raditz, Nappa is the only other Saiyan character from the main storyline of the DBZ series to not have any onscreen canonical transformations either of the Super Saiyan or Great Ape type. Thanks to the Dragon Ball Heroes spin-off series, these two early Saiyan villains are finally given their rightful Super Saiyan forms for fans to cut their teeth on. In Super Dragon Ball Heroes, Nappa and Raditz are given the fabled Super Saiyan 3 form. Despite not being canonical, these hypothetical character transformations are pretty popular among fans. They are also noted for being several Saiyans to be able to skip several lower Super Saiyan levels on their way to Super Saiyan 3. Maybe Vegeta should have asked his underlings just how to get to get to their level. Burn.
11 Color Correction Conundrum
When the initial run of the Dragon Ball Z anime was aired, Toei accidentally gave Vegeta and Nappa the wrong coloring. At least, it was wrong in the mind of Akira Toriyama, as the original manga was pretty much black-and-white.
Vegeta was given different colored hair that was sort of reddish. His Saiyan armor was also given an incorrect green tint. Due to the urging of Toriyama, further appearances of Vegeta were given the corrected coloring for the sake of consistency. However, Nappa’s coloring was pretty much given multiple coloring schemes, as his pre-Earth appearances featured him in the incorrect color scheme in the re-release version Dragon Ball Z Kai. Oh, how this boggles the mind. Perhaps, he owns several suits in different colors. We might never know.
10 Lone Elimination
While easily defeating the combined might of the early Z Fighters, Nappa’s one true elimination off of them came in the form of a sacrifice by Piccolo. The two other Z Fighters came in the form of failed kamikaze attacks by Chiaotzu and Tien. Chiaotzu clings to Nappa’s back to use a self-destruct attack that failed to defeat the big Saiyan general. In retaliation, Tien puts all of his power and life force in one final Tri-Beam attack that also failed. Thus, these exterminations are pretty much considered as coincidental destructions. The power level of Nappa did force the Z Fighters into these last-ditch efforts in order to defeat him. Interestingly enough, Goku easily dispatched Nappa, after having tremendous trouble battling his brother Raditz. Oh, how the story of Dragon Ball logic goes.
9 One Million Years
Featured in only the French dubbing of the Dragon Ball Z animated series, Nappa actually states that the Saiyan race has existed for over one million years. While there aren’t any other source material to prove or disprove this claim, this little bit of trivia could just be something created by the French translators, as it never shows up in dubs in other languages and in the original Japanese voice track.

In this short story, Bardock was actually sent back in time after being thought to have perished along with the destruction of Planet Vegeta. This is where Bardock ascends to Super Saiyan status and defeats Frieza’s ancestor. This could be why Frieza fears the fabled Super Saiyan.
8 The Tallest?
While Vegeta might be one of the shortest characters in the series as well as the others in the Saiyan race, his partner Nappa might actually be one of the tallest. Indeed, Nappa is the tallest Saiyan featured in the main Dragon Ball Z series. If one was to consider the expanded universe, then the Legendary Super Saiyan form of Broly would probably take the title as the tallest Saiyan in existence.

7 Vegeta Happened, Again
Similar to other defeated villains in the Dragon Ball Z series such as Android 19 and Cooler, Nappa returns to Earth in Dragon Ball GT, when a whole bunch of them escape the confines of the afterlife after the creation of Dr. Gero and Dr. Myuu’s dimensional portal during the Super 17 Saga, featuring the merging of the two Android 17s. Upon returning to life, Nappa encounters Vegeta, who was the one who first destroyed him and placed him in the afterlife. This time around, Vegeta has turned to the side of the heroes. Once again, Vegeta eliminates Nappa and sends him back to the afterlife. Thus, both times that Nappa has perished, it was because of Vegeta. Indeed, this is some sort of animated Deja vu.
6 Second Fiddle
After the appearance of Raditz, Nappa is essentially the second prominent villain to fight the heroic Z Fighters. Similar to Raditz, he also holds the distinction as being the second Saiyan exterminated onscreen. During his battles with the Z Fighters, Nappa was a much more capable warrior than Raditz, and probably over twice as powerful than Goku’s older brother. Weighing in at a 4,000 power level, Nappa was able to handle the team of Chiaotzu, Tien, Yamcha, Gohan, Krillin, and Piccolo. He was finally easily defeated by an extremely-upgraded Goku, who was able to cripple him by using the Kaio-ken power-up. His final demise came at the hands of Vegeta, who eliminated him for losing to Goku in such an embarrassing fashion.
