Better Call Saul The 10 Most Terrifying Criminals

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have featured some truly monstrous criminals. Better Call Saul in particular has taken some of the original series’ most terrifying crime bosses, and made them even more deadly and dangerous.

While Saul is used to dealing with criminals on a daily basis, some of those that he crosses paths with, or are featured in the series, are even worse than most. Here are 10 of the most terrifying criminals featured in the prequel show, Better Call Saul.

10 GUSTAVO FRING

Gus is known locally for owning a fast food chicken restaurant. While he’s a fair boss to his staff and an absolute perfectionist, he’s also using his business as a cover up for the drug cartel that he is secretly running from Albuquerque.

Although he can demonstrate patience at time, Gus has a quite temper, which is what makes him truly scary. He can snap at any moment and is a genuinely imposing figure. He’s not afraid to get his own hands dirty, and knows how to make the difficult choices.

9 TUCO SALAMANCA

The fear of Tuco comes from the fact that you can never predict what he’s going to do next. He’s a little bit crazy and even his cousin Lalo seems to think that Tuco isn’t all there. Saul himself got into a very difficult situation with him.

Not only does Tuco run his criminal gangs through intimidation, he can also act like your best friend, which is what makes him so confusing. He’s a difficult man to deal with, and you may not leave his house alive, even for a simple mistake.

8 HECTOR SALAMANCA

Hector Salamanca has always had a presence, even when confined to a wheelchair, only using a bell for communication. Better Call Saul managed to show the man before his health issues, and in many ways he was even more terrifying, due to his cutthroat nature.

Now that Hector has made his transition into the character we know from Breaking Bad, he’s still giving out dangerous orders, which can often be misinterpreted. The fact is, he doesn’t care what really happens to those around him.

7 MIKE EHRMANTRAUT

Mike is a sympathetic character that we have all grown to love since his appearance in the original series. While Saul is actually quite comfortable around Mike now, we’ve seen many flashes of how dangerous a criminal he really is.

Last season, Mike murdered one of his only friends in cold blood, and even managed to take down a mugger much younger and fitter than him. His no-nonsense attitude is what makes him so good at his job, but he really needs to get his anger in check.

6 LALO SALAMANCA

Lalo is the latest Salamanca we’ve been introduced to, and he’s now taking over the family business for the time being. He has come in with a lot of policies of reform, questioning the way in which the drug empire is currently being run.

That means that everyone underneath him should be a little afraid for their job — or their life. While Lalo gives off a friendly and charming vibe, underneath all that is the deep anger that runs through his family. We still have yet to see this fully unleashed.

5 NACHO

Nacho is a fascinating character as he perhaps has the best moral compass of anyone on this list. He cares for his family as well as the little guy affected by their criminal activity. But he always looks out for number one, and will do whatever it takes.

He of course protects his family and even his friends, but Nacho’s also been known to try to kill Hector himself, and has done a lot of things that demonstrates he has no fear. He is at his most terrifying when his back is up against the wall.

4 THE COUSINS

The Cousins have always been used in the Breaking Bad universe to intimidate. Some of the best episodes of either show have involved these two heartless henchmen. They are incredibly strong and well-trained fighters.

Their lack of communication and the death stare that they hold would make anyone tremble. In Better Call Saul, they’ve been used a few times to carry out the dirty work, and they are perhaps the most physically powerful duo on this list.

3 VICTOR

Victor isn’t as well known, although he’s famously the henchmen that had his throat sliced in front of Jesse and Walt in order to intimidate them. He’s actually one of the leading people in Gus’s organization throughout this show.

Victor has been known to commit some heartless acts for his boss. Because he knows his life is always on the line, he has no loyalty to anyone else, and would throw even his closest friends under the bus to save his own neck. This desperation is what makes him so dangerous.

2 JUAN BOLSA

Better Call Saul The 10 Most Terrifying Criminals

Juan Bolsa has a confidence that even Gus and Hector seem to fear. Perhaps it is because of the sheer power that he holds, or the way in which he conducts his business, but even the most terrifying criminals have to respect him.

He’s appeared numerous times throughout the series, and every time he does, we feel as if someone is about to get shot. Bolsa is calm and well measured, but we all know that deep down lies a mean streak waiting to come out.

1 ELADIO VUENTE

Don Eladio is the head of this whole operation and a man that everyone fears. Even Gus wouldn’t cross him (until he does, of course), and he maintains a tight grip over his operations.

The Winking Greek, as he has become known, has a dangerous history full of bloodshed. He has not become one of the wealthiest drug dealers in the world by simply playing it safe. We’re not sure Saul would ever survive a meeting with him.
