The sixth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine has an official premiere date, as well as a designated time slot. This will mark the show’s first season on NBC after Fox had canceled the series last spring.

Debuting on Fox in 2013, Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a comedy series following the tight-knit squad of Brooklyn’s 99th precinct. Despite critical acclaim, the series was canceled in May 2018, only to be picked up by NBC for a 13-episode sixth season (which was later bumped up to 18 episodes). The network responded to unparalleled support for the series via social media, including support from celebrities like Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Mark Hamill. Now, NBC has announced the official premiere and time slot for Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s anticipated sixth season.

According to NBC (via TVLine), the sixth season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will premiere on January 10, 2019. The new season will be taking over the 9 p.m. time slot on Thursday nights, replacing Will & Grace, which will be moved to the 9:30 p.m. time slot beginning on January 31 for the remainder of its tenth season. Until then, the new season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine will precede the Michael Schur comedy series The Good Place, which is being bumped from its 8:30 p.m. spot to make room for the hour-long athletic competition show The Titan Games, hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. (Incidentally, Schur is executive producer on both Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Good Place.)

While the new date and time slot for Brooklyn Nine-Nine was made official by NBC, Terry Crews, who plays Sergeant Terry Jeffords, revealed this information to fans via an Instagram Live Chat in October. And, speaking of cast members, Chelsea Peretti, who plays Civilian Administrator Gina Linetti, is officially leaving the show mid-season. Schur commented on her departure from the show, saying that even though it’s sad to see her leave, he “knows for a fact that this isn’t the last we’ll see of Gina Linetti.”

Following Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s dramatic return after its cancelation this past spring, anticipation surrounding the new season has been building significant momentum. Between its record-time comeback and ongoing support on social media, the new season is already set up for success. And, even though it’s fair to suggest that there is more pressure riding on this show now than ever before, an early end was never in the cards. The sixth season is sure to not only satisfy last season’s cliffhanger, but also diehard fans whose passion for the show was strong enough to keep it alive.
