Dragon Ball Why Goku Should Have Recruited Pikkon For Tournament of Power

Goku should have recruited Pikkon for Dragon Ball Super’s Tournament of Power. Pikkon was a character who encountered Goku during his time in Otherworld. He was a part of Dragon Ball Z’s filler material. In the lead-up to the Buu Saga, Goku entered a martial arts tournament on Otherworld and met fighters from other quadrants of his universe. One of these fighters was the West quadrant’s Pikkon, a character who proved to be a good match for Goku in his Super Saiyan form.

Pikkon wasn’t among the heroes on Goku’s list when he was tasked by Beerus with putting a team together for the Tournament of Power, an event that threatened the existence of eight universes. After learning of the tournament’s high stakes, Goku turned to the usual heavyweights, such as Vegeta, Gohan, Buu, and Piccolo. He also picked up Android 17, who turned out to be one of their strongest fighters. In addition to them, Goku was able to convince Android 18, Krillin, Master Roshi, and Tien to help out as well. The team faced a setback when Buu fell into a deep sleep, but Goku filled his spot on the roster by asking King Yemma to temporarily let Frieza out of Hell.

The biggest omission for Goku’s team is arguably Yamcha, but he wasn’t the only character Goku could have asked for help. There’s also Pikkon. Pikkon is currently dead, but since that didn’t stop Goku from putting Frieza on the team, that shouldn’t have been a major obstacle for Pikkon either. As a fighter who has beaten Perfect Cell in seconds, he would have been a more than capable ally. Plus, there’s the fact that he was able to fight on Goku’s level in Dragon Ball Z. Admittedly, Goku, Piccolo, Gohan, and Vegeta have all surpassed Pikkon’s Dragon Ball Z power level, but he’s still likely above a few of the Universe 7 team members, such as Krillin, Tien, and Master Roshi. He may also be above Android 18.

Furthermore, even though Pikkon at the level that he was in Dragon Ball Z would have been an asset in the Tournament of Power, there’s a good chance that he was even stronger by Dragon Ball Super. Considering that years have passed since those days, Pikkon could have made some massive gains. If Goku had turned his attention to him during the recruitment process, the anime could have delivered Pikkon’s first role in a non-filler Dragon Ball story. Since Krillin was eliminated early in the tournament, he would have been a good fit for Krillin’s spot on the roster. Or, Goku could have picked him over Frieza. Even though Pikkon may be weaker than Dragon Ball Super’s Frieza, he would have been more reliable than the treacherous villain who nearly sided with Universe 11.

It’s worth mentioning that Pikkon’s inclusion would have fixed Universe 7’s representation problem. What’s strange about the Universe 7 team is that it only consists of characters associated in one way or another with Earth or the Z-Warriors, whereas the other Tournament of Power teams consist of characters from different corners of their universes. If Pikkon was on the team, he’d be the only Universe 7 fighter from a different quadrant. All nine fighters that Goku picked for his team in Dragon Ball Super were from the North side. Given that the tournament was all about bringing together the most powerful fighters in every universe, it seemed that odd that the Universe 7 team was focused around one planet.
