Everything New in Diablo 3 Season 21

When it launched in 2012, the ARPG Diablo 3 had a lukewarm reception due to unpopular features which were eventually removed. Over time, the game improved remarkably, fixing balance issues, adding the Reaper of Souls expansion, and adding the much-anticipated necromancer class in the Rise of The Necromancer DLC. Seasons were also introduced, which prominently features and encourages end-game content.

Diablo 3 has now started its 21st season, which means it is an excellent time to begin playing once again. For players making a seasonal character, it is essentially starting a new game. The player begins at level 1, their inventory and storage are completely empty, the artisans are at rank 1, no crafting recipes are known, etc. However, players have access to a seasonal ability and can earn cosmetics such as portrait frames and (non-combat) pets unique to the season.

Playing the Trials of Tempests in Diablo 3

Season 21 is called Trials of Tempests. The seasonal ability causes players to channel elemental power every 90 seconds. The effect is random, but includes a rain of poison meteors, a wall of flame, lightning breath, tornadoes, or even a . . . giant snowball which rolls around. These elemental powers have varying degrees of usefulness dependent on class type.

Upon completing chapters 2-4 of the season journey, players will be rewarded with Haedrig’s gifts. Opening the gifts awards the player with pieces of armor, leading to a full set. The set armor received depends on the class that opens the gifts. Keep in mind this can only be done once per season across all characters, so choose wisely. The sets for this season are:

  • Demon Hunter – The Shadow’s Mantle
  • Barbarian – Might of the Earth
  • Wizard – Firebird’s Finery
  • Witch Doctor – Raiment of the Jade Harvester
  • Monk – Monkey King’s Garb
  • Crusader – Thorns of the Invoker
  • Necromancer – Grace of Inarius

There are also returning cosmetic rewards from previous seasons for players who did not get them before. In this case, players can get the chest and gloves from the Conqueror set, the Pandemonium portrait frames, and the Rocky pet from Season 9. Of course, there are brand new rewards as well. Upon completing the objectives for Conqueror, players are awarded an extra stash tab. Upon completing Guardian, they get the Industrial portrait frame and the Stupendous Contraption pet.

Season 21 started on July 3rd, and will run for about three months. So now is the time to get out there and show the denizens of Hell who is the real demon.
