Genshin Impact’s Best (& Worst) Elemental Reactions

Elemental Reactions are an important part of Genshin Impact. miHoYo’s open-world RPG is full of dangers, and learning how to take advantage of the game’s various Elements can be the difference between defeating a boss and having an entire party wiped out. However, not all Elemental Reactions are equal. So, what are the best Elemental Reactions in Genshin Impact – and which one is the worst?

Understanding Genshin Impact’s Element combos can make combat a whole lot easier. Each character in the game has their own elemental leanings. For instance, Noelle and Zhongli are Geo users, Bennett and Hu Tao are Pyro, and Keaya and Ganyu are Cryo. There are currently six Elements in the game: Anemo (wind), Cryo (ice), Electro (lightning), Geo (earth), Hydro (water), and Pyro (fire). Each Element reacts to others in specific ways, so understanding these reactions is important.

Because of the way these Elemental Reactions work, some characters in Genshin Impact complement one another better than others. Some of the best Elemental Reactions are Overloaded and Superconduct. Overloaded is a combination of Electro and Pyro elements, and it causes massive Pyro AoE damage to enemies. Superconduct is a combination of Cryo and Electro, and it causes widespread AoE Cryo damage and reduces enemies’ physical resistance stats by half.

Why Genshin Impact’s Elemental Reactions Are Important

Another great Elemental Reaction is Swirl, which is the Anemo element combined with either Cryo, Electro, Hydro, or Pyro. Swirl deals extra elemental damage to foes and spreads the effect, which can be very useful for taking down larger groups of enemies. The important part is making sure Swirl’s Anemo is paired with an element the foes are weak to, so that it can be super effective.

Elemental Reactions like Melt and Vaporize are useful for dealing damage too, although Crystalize is probably the worst Elemental Reaction in Genshin Impact right now. This is because Crystalize occurs when Geo is paired up with either Cryo, Electro, Hydro, or Pyro elements and it simply creates a crystal shield. In order to get this reaction, players will need a Geo user, and many Geo users already have a shield buff in Genshin Impact, which makes Crystalize feel a bit unnecessary.

More Elements will be added to Genshin Impact in future updates, including a new one rumored to be arriving with Dainslief in upcoming content. Because of this, the way Elemental Reactions work could change – and it can certainly mean there will be more Elemental Reactions for players to use in Genshin Impact in the future.
