The Gravity Falls three-part finale almost deleted an extended version of the live-action scene. The animated series from creator Alex Hirsch only lasted two seasons before coming to a close, but it amassed a dedicated following during its run. The fandom around Gravity Falls has grown since the finale as well, as more people around the world learn about the adventurous brother and sister combo, Dipper (Jason Ritter) and Mabel Pines (Kristen Schaal).

The series followed their adventures in Gravity Falls where they stay for the summer with Uncle Stan (voiced by Hirsch), the owner of a local tourist attraction shop called the Mystery Shack – in most countries at least. While the Pines family takes up most of the screen time in Gravity Falls, one of the more prominent supporting characters is Wendy Corduroy (Linda Cardellini), a part-time employee at the Mystery Shack.

These four characters go on several wild adventures throughout the show, and Hirsch doesn’t shy away from including weird or non-traditional elements. This was highlighted during Gravity Falls’ three-episode finale, specifically in “Weirdmageddon: Part 1.” When Dipper and Wendy encounter weirdness bubbles, they briefly transform into live-action characters. The scene made physical appearances by Ritter and Cardellini possible, but a longer version of the scene was deleted from the final cut. Check out this scene and more deleted scenes in the Screen Rant video featured at the top of this post.

The regular version of the scene only includes Ritter and Cardellini on screen for a few seconds, and neither of them is given a chance to speak. The characters are too busy screaming during the high-speed chase and reality changing circumstances to do so. But the deleted scene shows Dipper freaking out over the detail that he has as well as the “extra” finger that he has on each hand, as Gravity Falls gives its characters only four fingers on each hand. However, Wendy is a big fan of this transformation. She points out how good she looks in real life, thanks to Cardellini.

The deleted additional footage does make for an even better live-action sequence than the one Gravity Falls otherwise delivered, so many will be left wondering why the full scene wasn’t included in the finale. The reasoning hasn’t been confirmed, but it may have come down to the pacing of the gag. The live-action version is just one of three bubbles that Dipper and Wendy go through, so they had to go by relatively quickly to avoid dragging out the scene. While the few added seconds may not seem like much in the grand scheme of the episode, at least the longer footage has been released online, so Gravity Falls enthusiasts can see it as often as they want.
