Finding your footing in Grounded can be a bit of a process when you’re not used to being shrunk down to insect size. You’ll want to take care of your basic needs first, such as building a simple shelter, some tools, and getting a general sense of your surroundings. Eventually, though, you’re going to have to explore beyond your comfort zone if you want to really make progress and see what other surprises are in store for you across the yard. When that time comes, you need to be ready, and for that you’ll need some good gear. Grub Hide is a material you’ll absolutely want to get familiar with, so let’s run down how you can get it, and what its used for.

Before you run off in search of Grub Hide in Grounded, make sure you’ve progressed far enough before trying. You’ll at least need to reach the Acorn Tree before you can start gathering this material. If you haven’t reached this location yet, the giant tree with bright red and orange leaves is hard to miss, so journey over to it once you feel confident you can survive the trip.

How To Get Grub Hide

Like we just mentioned, you’ll first need to reach the Acorn Tree before you can come across Grub Hide. This can be a treacherous journey if you go unprepared, so make sure you have a decent weapon ready as you are likely to come across some pretty nasty insects on your journey.

You will also need a shovel, or a Hammer if you haven’t found the shovel recipe yet. If you don’t have a shovel yet, use your hammer to break an acorn and get the pieces to analyze and craft into a basic Acorn Shovel. The full recipe is two Sprigs, one Woven Fiber, and one Acorn Shell.

Once at the base of the tree you will start to notice Grubs digging around near the roots. This is where your shovel comes into play. Find a Grub burrowing around and use your shovel to dig it out of the Earth. Once it’s exposed, swap weapons and kill it fast before it can escape. Grubs don’t fight back, so as long as you hit them fast enough you’re in no danger. Once it’s dead, just walk on over and collect the Grub Hide from the body.

Take your prize back to the research station and throw it in the analyzer to unlock several new recipes.

How To Use Grub Hide

After you analyze the Grub Hide you will unlock several new items you can craft. These include the Mite Hat, Canteen, Grub Vest, Grub Leggings, and Grub Goggles. Starting from the top, the Mite Hat will give you + Hyperstamina and mild defense. It costs five Mite Fuzz and Five Grub Hide to craft. A canteen does just what you expect, allow you to carry clean water on your travels, and takes three Grub Hides and two Woven Fiber. The Grub Vest grants a + Max Stamina buff and mild defense boost, costing five Grub Hides, two Grub Goops (also collected from Grubs), and four Dry Grass Chunks. The leggings have the same stats and require four Grub Hide, four Dry Grass Chunks, and two Mite Fuzz. Finally, Grub Goggles are just a flat + Max Stamina buff for two Grub Hides and one Raw Weevil Meat.
