Grounded has hit the backyard running with 1 million players in just 48 hours since releasing on early access.

Obsidian is a big name, but they’ve never done a survival game before. No one was sure how it would turn out–least of all Obsidian–but they’re pleased to find out that yes, people will buy an Obsidian survival game. Even if it’s not technically done yet.

Grounded has just released on early access on Steam and the PC Xbox Game Pass, and even though it’s only been a few days the game has already racked up over a million players.

Thank you so much for checking out the game and showing your support,” said Grounded game director Adam Brennecke in a special video message touting the game’s first million players. “Which is amazing, it’s blown us away. The team is so happy, and we’re just overjoyed with all the support that we’re getting.”

Brennecke also revealed that Grounded would get regular monthly updates as part of its early access development, with the first one arriving on August 27. We have no details on what this update will include, but you can likely expect bug fixes and iterative improvements to the game’s systems.

For those still unaware, Grounded is a survival game that basically takes the plot of Honey, I Shrunk The Kids and turns it into a game. The mystery is just who–or what–shrunk you down to less than the size of an ant. But as you’re exploring the wild backyard for clues on what made you bite-sized, you’re also gathering resources and building shelter to protect yourself from the onslaught of nocturnal insects that come every night.

Bugs are the main enemy of Grounded, which can be a problem if you’re arachnophobic. Luckily, Grounded also comes with accessibility options that can work around your irrational fears of the eight-legged variety thanks to Arachnophobia Safe Mode. This mode lets you alter the shape, textures, or even number of legs of spiders until they stop triggering the “breakdown weeping in a pile of your own excrement” centers of an arachnophobe’s brain.

You can get in on the early access fun on Steam of the Microsoft Windows store.
